Box Office Breakdown: Social Network Liked by Audiences

The Social Network

Theatergoers took time away from their personal Facebook accounts this weekend to enjoy some actual entertainment this weekend.

—David Fincher’s film about the creation of that social media site—raised enough friends over the last three days to land the biopic in first place. Network’s $22.4 million outing also gave screenwriter Aaron Sorkin his best opening to date.

’s long-awaited debut barely went noticed. The Renee Zellweger/Bradley Cooper movie, which had been waiting for a release date for over two years, was produced for an estimated $27 million. Unfortunately, it only earned back $5.4 million of that from domestic audiences.

Meanwhile, also struggled to find a warm welcome. The vampire thriller – a remake of Sweden’s Let the Right One In—took in only $5.1 million, enough for an 8th place finish.

Facebook Movie Could Damage Zuckerberg’s Image

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Sony, Biopics, Drama, New Releases, Videos,

, the much-hyped movie depicting the origins of Facebook, does not paint a very flattering portrait of company founder Mark Zuckerberg. The former Harvard student is the world’s youngest billionaire and already wildly successful though he’s several years shy of his 30th birthday. But his story, as presented in the movie, is hardly the stuff of American dreams.

Facebook execs attempted to get some parts of the film changed…but it didn’t work. Now, the famous social networking site (and it’s low-profile founder Zuckerberg) is preparing for the unflattering film to be a big hit with moviegoers (which seems, considering the cast and the huge promotional budget, a foregone conclusion).

Listen to The Social Network’s First Teaser Trailer

Last week, Columbia Pictures offered up a portrait of a serial killer as a teaser for its upcoming movie about Facebook. Now, we at least have some voices - and only voices - to go with the film.

In this new trailer for , we get a better feel for where director David Fincher and writer Aaron Sorkin are going with the poster’s tagline: “You Don’t Get to 500 Million Friends Without Making a Few Enemies.” (Give the ominous tone of the music, I think I’m going to be perfectly happy with the 300+ friends I have right now.)

Jesse Eisenberg is Scary as Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg

The Social Network

The poster for the upcoming Facebook movie, The Social Network, is out and it’s a far, dark cry from the bright, fun place that gave way to Farmville. Hollywood, after all, always has to ensure

sex, drugs, and murder

extra drama when it comes to biopics (I mean no one’s life is ever boring, right?).

If there was a good way to distinguish star —who portrays Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in the film—from

carbon copy

awkward, teen actor Michael Cera, this will hopefully do the trick. Or maybe he’s trying to make up for the sad movie that was Adventureland.

Twilight’s Taylor Lautner Talks About Possible New Moon Replacement

UPDATE: Taylor will be keeping his job after all.

If Taylor Lautner’s really at risk of losing his job, the actor is not going to go down without a fight. Or at least an extra push-up.

In an interview last week with MTV, the 16-year-old addressed rumors that he may be left out of the upcoming sequel. According to a recent report in Entertainment Weekly, the studio was looking to find someone else to tackle Jacob Black’s beefier role in New Moon. Since that time, Michael Copon (Scorpion King 2) and Ben Barnes’ (Prince Caspian) names have been thrown out as possible replacements. (Copon has even gone so far as to imply on his own Facebook page that he was already given the role.)
