Judi Dench and Benedict Cumberbatch

Judi Dench agreed to star in an adaptation of Richard III after a public plea from Benedict Cumberbatch over the weekend.

The veteran actress was taking part in a question and answer session at the Hay Festival in Powys, Wales when the Sherlock star - who will take on the title role in the BBC drama this autumn - jumped at the chance to pin her down to the project following lengthy rumors he was keen to have her on board to play Queen Margaret in the Shakespearean tale.

"Would you like to be in Richard III with me?" Benedict asked. After a lengthy pause, Judi replied, "Yeah." Apparently there was a rather good theatrical pause until she finally said, "Yeah."

Benedict Cumberbatch: I Want a Dumb Role

Benedict CumberbatchBenedict Cumberbatch wants to play a dumb character.

The Sherlock actor, who has just completed The Imitation Game, a biopic of British cryptographer, Alan Turing, insists he's ready for a less intellectual role. "I always seem to be cast as slightly wan, ethereal, troubled intellectuals or physically ambivalent bad lovers... I am so ready to play a really dumb character," the 37-year-old star told T magazine.

Benedict, who has also won awards for his role as Victor Frankenstein and his monster in the West End production, became a huge star after taking on the part of the titular detective in BBC1's Sherlock but admits he's not the nicest character to play: "I always make it clear that people who become obsessed with him or the idea of him - he'd destroy you... He is an absolute b*****d."

Benedict Cumberbatch Bulked up for ‘Star Trek’

Benedict Cumberbatch in 'Star Trek'Benedict Cumberbatch ate 4,000 calories to get ready for Star Trek: Into Darkness. The actor has revealed he gorged on fattening foods and endured an intense physical boot camp in order to bulk up for his role as mysterious villain John Harrison in J.J. Abrams' sci-fi sequel.

"It was the first time I'd really intensely shape-shifted ... To go up from a 38 chest to a 42, eating 4,000 calories a day and training two hours a day, as well as the stunt rehearsals and fight choreography, was the most physical demand that's ever been made of me for the screen," he said.

However, Benedict was honest when asked whether he was a bit of a geek when it came to the cult space saga and revealed he was never obsessed with the programme when he was growing up. "Not very much ... I obviously have a latent fan fixation with Star Trek because of how thrilled I was when everyone got together in the first reboot. I never was obsessive about anything I watched when I was a kid, except maybe The A-Team and Airwolf ... And I loved Knight Rider and then later Baywatch," he confessed.
