Anne Hathaway: Best Actress for Hollywood’s Dollar

Anne HathawayIt looks like Saturday Night Live was smart to book Anne Hathaway for her second visit. According to Forbes, the actress is worth her money and more.

Anne, who has starred in large grossers including Alice in Wonderland and Get Smart, is estimated to bring in $64 in profit for every buck spent on her. That’s the highest amount for any female based on the magazine’s set of factors.

Hathaway’s relatively small paycheck helped her score this achievement.

Curious Case of Benjamin Button star came in a distant second. The Oscar winner only returns $27 per dollar.

Tying for third are Jennifer Aniston and . The romantic comedy staple and the Academy Awards fixture both pull in about $21 for each dollar.

Sex and the City’s is the next ranked star with $17 per dollar.

Cinema Scene: Sing-Along Beauty and the Beast; Live-Action Mulan

Beauty and the Beast-A sing-along version of Beauty and the Beast will be coming to theaters at the end of the month. The animated film will be available in limited release on September 29 and October 2.

-Speaking of old Disney films, Zhang Ziyi will star in a live-action version of Mulan. The English-language project will be directed by Speed‘s Jan de Bont and produced by an independent studio.

-Blockbuster has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The video chain – which has nearly approximately $1 billion in debt – will be preparing to close another 800 stores.

-Ed Zwick’s Love and Other Drugs, starring Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal, has been chosen to open AFI Fest 2010 in November. Black Swan will close the festival.

Johnny Depp Mad for Hatter Role

Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter is honored to play the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland.

The 46-year-old actor admits his eccentric character in ‘s film, based on the classic children’s novel, was a “dream” role.

“To play the Mad Hatter and breathe life into Tim’s vision is a dream come true. He’s a fascinating character. He’s mad. He’s unpredictable.”

Depp also suggests the Mad Hatter will have a great affection for the movie’s protagonist, Alice, played by actress : “They complete one another like a brother and sister do. He’s very protective of her, and she’s very protective of him.”

Earlier this month , who plays the White Queen in the movie, admitted the original script had her playing the lead role of Alice - but she turned it down as she felt it was too close to a previous role.

“The studio had the Alice script a long time ago and I was approached back then for the part of Alice. I considered it, but felt, what with The Princess Diaries, that I had been there, done that sort of pretty-girl-in-a-fairy-dress role. I told the studio, however, that I would, however, be interested in playing the White Queen.”

follows a storyline different to the original story, written by Lewis Caroll, and will be released in early March.


Anne Hathaway to Announce Oscar Nominations

Anne Hathaway will be up early next week to announce this year’s Oscar nominations.

The Devil Wears Prada star - who was nominated for her role in last year - will join Academy President Tom Sherak for the official presentation.

Sherak and Hathaway will reveal the nominations in 10 of the 24 categories at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ press conference.

The event will take place Tuesday, February 2, from Beverly Hills.


Keira Knightley Aims For Fair Lady Role

Keira Knightley has her eyes set for the Fair Lady roleA fan of period pieces, Keira Knightley has been tipped to star in a new version of My Fair Lady.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actress is reportedly in negotiations to play Eliza Doolittle in Emma Thompson’s adaptation of the classic rags-to-riches tale.

Anne Hathaway and Scarlett Johansson are also being considered for the role, which was originally played by Audrey Hepburn. An insider said, “Keira and Scarlett are the only two real contenders, and Keira’s the favorite. She’s the most natural Eliza people have seen. She has worked on her singing voice for a year and will get better and better.”

The film’s director Danny Boyle, who won an Academy Award for Slumdog Millionaire earlier this year, is also believed to want Keira to get the part.

The 24-year-old actress is said to be “scared” about taking on such an iconic role, but excited about the challenge it would present. Filming is expected to start late next year.

The man best known as Wolverine will soon bring P.T. Barnum back to life in a brand new movie musical. That’s right - is going to sing, dance and make viewers want to run away to the circus.

Showman will revolve around the life of P.T. Barnum, whose known for his hand in creating Barnum and Bailey Circus. Barnum is behind such innovations as the three-ring circus set up that’s still used today. Writers of the script are hoping to get to play the female lead in the movie. Contemporary songs will help bring this period piece into the modern era.

P.T. Barnum died in 1891. He was born in Connecticut and during his long career in entertainment wrote several books. He was a celebrated promoter and showman through most of his life.

Thanks to Where the Wild Things Are and now Alice in Wonderland, children everywhere will soon be searching for magical lands of their own.

In this teaser trailer for Tim Burton’s latest creation, we see what can happen when young ladies fall down mysterious holes and drink things from unlabeled bottles. We also get brief glimpses of a number of characters including The White Queen (Anne Hathaway), The Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter), The Cheshire Cat (Michael Sheen) and Tweedledum/Tweedledee (Matt Lucas). Mia Wasikowska stars as Alice while Johnny Depp portrays The Mad Hatter.
