Isla Fisher Working on Thriller Script

Isla Fisher is writing a thriller with her mum.

The Great Gatsby star has admitted if she hadn't become an actress, she would have become a full time writer and after mastering the art of performing, she's now ready to try her luck at a screenplay.

The 37-year-old star has teamed up with her mother, Elspeth Reid - who helped her publish two teen novels, Bewitched and Seduced by Fame when she was 18 years old - to create a film, which she claims has been challenging, but amusing.

"My mum and I have actually been writing a script for a thriller together. It's really fun. She doesn't understand the rules of screenwriting, so I'm often like, 'What?! Mum, you can't kill off the protagonist on page 10!' She breaks all the rules, which makes it original at least. We've had a scream doing it," she said.

Isla FisherIsla Fisher received "no helping hand" when trying to become an actress. The Confessions of a Shopaholic actress admits she struggled to gain recognition when she first moved to Hollywood and was even snubbed by the agent who represented her husband, then-boyfriend, Sacha Baron Cohen after she was fired by her own representative.

"I really have had no help. In fact, the one time I did ask for help was after my agent in LA fired me. I was auditioning for all sorts of things but kept getting told 'no,' so she just fired me! So anyway, I said to Sacha, who was my boyfriend at the time, 'Can you ask your agent if they'll represent me?' And his agent said, 'No way.' It was the only favor I'd ever asked, and I was like, 'OK... great.' But it spurred me on. I've had no helping hand in Hollywood. But in general I've found that when it comes to getting jobs, what's meant for you can't pass you by."

Isla Fisher in 'Now You See Me'

Isla Fisher nearly drowned on the set of Now You See Me. The 37-year-old Australian star was left struggling for air when she got tangled up in chains while performing a stunt as a glamorous escapologist in a water tank, after being submerged for two and a half minutes.

"They had a guy who was off camera, but he was a long way away with a can of oxygen. By the time I realized I couldn't get up and beckoned for him, I realized that I had run out of air," she said. The petite star explained that there was an emergency "kill switch" in the tank, which would have completely drained it in 70 seconds but she couldn't reach it: "Luckily, I managed to get free and stay level-headed and got out before it went even more horribly wrong."

Isla Fisher Replaces Amanda Seyfried in ‘Now You See Me’

Isla FisherIsla Fisher is set to replace Amanda Seyfried in Now You See Me.

The Wedding Crashers actress - who is currently filming Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby - will reportedly soon begin talks with director Louis Leterrier to appear in the thriller after Jennifer's Body star Amanda dropped out of contention, Variety reports.

The film sees Mark Ruffalo play the leader of an FBI team assigned to track down a gang of magicians known as the Four Horsemen who pull off bank raids during their performances and distribute the proceeds through their audiences. Isla is in line to play Henley, an illusion builder who helps the criminals pull off their tricks. Also starring in the film are Social Network actor Jesse Eisenberg as leader of the gang, Morgan Freeman, who plays a former illusionist who has been shunned by other magicians for revealing how their tricks work, and Melanie Laurent, who stars as a federal agent.

Edward Rucourt and Boaz Yakin have written the script for the movie, while Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci will produce. Filming on Now You See Me is scheduled to begin in January.

Back in February 2008, Hannah Montana grossed a record $31.1 million during its first weekend. Now, just over a year later, the Jonas Brothers can say they pulled in less than 1/2 as much.

Although there were high hopes for , the musical trio was unable to match the work of dual personalities. (The movie even played in twice as many screens as the Miley Cyrus version.) As it was, the teen heartthrobs were only the second biggest draw this weekend. The good news? The boys did have the best per screen average of any entry in the Top Ten.

Madea Goes to Jail

While Slumdog Millionaire was making news for India, Tyler Perry was busy breaking records for his studio.

The latest installment in Tyler Perry’s franchise surpassed all expectations this weekend. , with its $41 million premiere, was the box office’s biggest opener since November’s Twilight. It was also the best debuter for Lionsgate…ever. (October 2006’s Saw III was the previous topper at $33 million.)

Unfortunately, Friday the 20th didn’t go as well for Friday the 13th. After only one week on the charts, last weekend’s record breaker dropped a frightening 81% to 6th place.

Twelve turned out to be a lucky number for good old #13.

Blood-thirsty audiences helped push into the record books this holiday weekend. (There’s no better way to spend a Valentine’s Day than scared in your honey’s arms.) The franchise’s twelfth installment scared up $43.6 million over the last four days to become the top horror opener of all time. Friday also had the second best showing ever for a President’s Day weekend debut. (Ghost Rider pulled in $52 million in 2007.)

The horror film wasn’t the only newsmaker this February. , this week’s sixth-place finisher, added on another $13.8 million to officially break the $100 million mark. (The comedy currently stands at $112.3 million.) That’s the first time a January opener has ever done that.

What comes up, must eventually come down.  That goes for ‘s sports career as well.

Even though netted this weekend’s #1 spot, the basketball flick earned a measly $15 million.  That gross trails far behind 2006’s Talledega Nights ($47 million) and 2007’s ($33 million).  Sadly, Semi‘s debut also takes a backseat to Kicking and Screaming and Bewitched.  (In Ferrell’s defense, this movie was the only one of his sports films to be rated R.)
