Early Reviews for Iron Man 2

While most have you probably decided months ago what you’ll be doing on May 7, there are some who may still be on the fence.

Should you be buying tickets to in advance? Or will the movie disappoint like many other blockbuster sequels out there? Here are some of the early reviews:

Hollywood Reporter:  “Everything fun and terrific about Iron Man, a mere two years ago, has vanished with its sequel. In its place, Iron Man 2 has substituted noise, confusion, multiple villains, irrelevant stunts and misguided story lines. A film series that started out with critical and commercial success will have to settle for only the latter with this sequel.”

Ain’t It Cool News: “Iron Man 2 is comic movie crack! We may not have a lot of Comic Book awesome coming this summer, but frankly - this is all I need… Iron Man 2 is in the tradition of the great 2nd films in the series we love the second films from. You know the titles. This will be like those experiences… where you were scared that it was going to be watered down, you were worried that there was going to be too much to juggle, when you were terrified it was just going to pander to kids. No. Iron Man 2 is made for us - all of us.”

Daily Mirror: “Iron Man 2 is a travesty – a mind-numbingly dull, chaotic and often unwatchable muddle. It might even be the ultimate masterclass in how not to make a movie. Given the strength of part one, the sequel is not just a terrific failure but a terrific disappointment… Iron Man 2 is making the same mistake that was leveled at of throwing too much into the mix.”

IGN: “With a third film an inevitability (or are we merely going to see Iron Man‘s various open threads closed in The Avengers?), this entry in the franchise almost certainly matches and exceeds the wit of the first film. Supported by a terrific cast, surprisingly dense script and excellent effects work, this is another gold star for Favreau’s Iron Man.”

Variety: “Iron Man 2 isn’t as much fun as its predecessor, but by the time the smoke clears, it’ll do. Yet while the first go-round for this lesser-known Marvel hero benefited from its freshness and visual flair, the beats here are more familiar, the pacing more uneven… If there are more heroes around, as is so often the case with sequels, there’s villain inflation as well. There are enough fun moments in ‘s playful direction…but one needs a forgiving nature to get past the flabby midsection.”
