One of Hollywood’s leading ladies is about to become royalty … for one movie, anyway. An upcoming Princess Diana biopic will give one actress the chance to play the iconic role.

Brit Keira Knightley is the top contender for the role, according to gossip, though blonde bombshell Scarlett Johansson is also being considered. Producers are hoping to get Helen Mirren, who played the title role in The Queen, to play Diana’s mother Frances Shand Kydd.

The movie will follow Diana's life from early childhood to her untimely 1997 death.

Diana’s continued popularity, and the unwavering fascination people still have for her, guarantees that other actresses will, over time, have their chance to be her … in fact, it’ll be happening soon.

Charlize Theron will play Diana in an upcoming flick that focuses on the Princess’s relationship with her bodyguard Ken Wharfe (played by Ewan MacGregor in the movie. Sources say the big budget Theron/MacGregor flick will be released prior to the proposed Mirren/Knightley picture.
