Here’s a quick look at some of the casting announcements made recently:

Jon Hamm: The Mad Men star has been cast opposite Ben Affleck in The Town, a film that Affleck will also direct. Ben will play a career thief who becomes romantically-involved with a bank manager (Vicky Cristina Barcelona‘s Rebecca Hall). Unfortunately, an FBI agent (Hamm) hunting the criminal also has his eyes set on the same woman. Production starts this month in Boston.

Billy Crudup: The Watchmen actor is being brought down to size in Eat, Pray, Love. Crudup will join an already-cast Julia Roberts and Javier Bardem in an adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert’s memoir. Billy has been tapped to play Steven, the husband who Elizabeth (Roberts) eventually leaves when she finds herself unhappy with her life. Filming starts this week.

Nicolas Cage: The Green Hornet may still be down a Kato, but it may be up a villain. Cage is currently in talks to face off against a masked Seth Rogen as a gangster. Meanwhile, Cameron Diaz’s name is also being linked to the film. The My Sister’s Keeper star could be playing a reporter and possible love interest. Filming on the Michel Gondry film is expected to begin this fall.

Hugh Jackman: We already know Hugh Jackman could charm the pants off a woman, so why couldn’t he sell them makeup? The Wolverine star is now attached to Avon Man, a story about a gentlemen who finds himself selling the cosmetics line after becoming unemployed. When he sees potential in the industry, he recruits other former auto workers to do the same. Hitch‘s Kevin Bisch is penning the script.

Natalie Portman: The Star Wars actress has just jumped onboard another blockbuster-sized film. Portman has been cast as Jane Foster, the female lead in Thor, an update of the comic book story. The Oscar nominee will star opposite Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek), who’ll play the title character. In the film, Thor will be sent down to Earth after reigniting an ancient war. The Kenneth Branagh pic will debut on May 20, 2011.

Jason Statham: The Crank hunk is close to joining Blitz, a serial killer drama. Statham would play an officer who is on the hunt for a cop killer. The thriller is an adaptation of a Ken Bruen’s novel. Filming will begin on August 10 in London.
