American Gladiators Storms Into Theaters
The series might not be coming back to NBC anytime soon, but that doesn’t mean American Gladiators is dead. According to Variety, the arena classic will soon be pumped up for the big screen.
Although it’s unclear what the production will entail, the live-action adaptation will apparently be about more than just the competition. “I look forward to creating a compelling story that launches a whole new set of characters,” producer Scott Mednick (300, Where the Wild Things Are) said.
As hard as it might seem to believe, Johnny Ferraro, the show’s creator, claims Gladiators was always meant to be seen in multiplexes. The original concept was supposedly intended for theaters, but it “took a detour and became a TV phenomenon.”
No start date has been announced for the action-filled project.
