Casting Corner: Tobey Maguire, Fergie, Michael Vartan

Tobey Maguire

Here’s a quick look at some of the casting announcements made recently:

While the Spider-Man execs keep themselves busy with talk about a fourth installment, Tobey Maguire is preparing to act in less-flashy fare.

For his next project, Maguire will reteam with director Gary Ross for another period piece. (The two previously worked together on both Pleasantville and Seabiscuit.) In The Crusaders, Tobey will play Jack Greenberg, a lawyer who was involved in 1954’s landmark Brown v. Board of Education case.

The film, an adaptation of Greenberg’s actual memoirs, will be written by Danny Strong - a recent nominee for his work on HBO’s Recount.

Fergie

Days after learning of Kate Hudson’s inclusion, we are now learning that Fergie has been added to the cast of Nine.

The Rob Marshall musical - an adaptation the Broadway production - already has a string of women set to star against Daniel Day-Lewis. Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, , Judi Dench and Sophia Loren will play women in the lead character’s life.

The singer, who did have a minor role in 2007’s Grindhouse, is being cast as Saraghina, a woman who introduces Day-Lewis “to the world of sexuality.”

I guess someone’s London Bridge will be coming down?

Michael Vartan

’ Michael Vartan will move on from capturing baddies to play a baddie in a new workplace comedy.

In Demoted, Vartan will square off against David Cross (), a co-worker in a tire store. Vartan, who finds enjoyment in tormenting the other salesman, later has the tables turned when he becomes Cross’ underling.

The Parallel Zide production begins film in September.
