Casting Corner: Ewan McGregor, Amanda Seyfried, Jeff Daniels and More

Ewan McGregorAmanda Seyfried

Here’s a quick look at some of the casting announcements made recently:

Ewan McGregor:  The Deception actor is just one of several high-profile stars currently on board for The Men Who Stare at Goats, a movie being co-produced by George Clooney. McGregor plays a reporter who meets a soldier (Clooney) during the Iraq War. Through George, Ewan learns about secret army unit comprised of psychic soldiers. The movie, which is an adaptation of Jon Ronson’s book, also stars features Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges.

Christina Ricci: The Speed Racer actress will soon be getting off the track and heading into the world of Renaissance. In All’s Faire in Love, Ricci will play the love interest of a drama school grad who participates in a Renaissance Faire theater troupe. The romantic comedy - which also stars Owen Benjamin, Nadine Velazquez, Bill Engvall and Cedric the Entertainer - starts rolling later this month in Michigan.

Jeff Daniels:  The Traitor star will be lightening it up a bit in his next feature. Daniels, who can soon be seen in State of Play, will join Ryan Reynolds and Lisa Kudrow in a new comedy titled Paper Man. Jeff will play a struggling author who finds himself becoming friends with a Long Island teenager. (Does anyone else smell Wonder Boys here?) Production kicks off in November.

Amanda Seyfried: The young star of this summer’s hottest musical has just been cast in another big screen romance. The Mamma Mia! actress will next be featured in Dear John, an adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook) novel. In the movie, Seyfried will play a woman who falls for a soldier temporarily on leave. Production on the probable weeper begins next month, just after Amanda wraps filming on HBO’s Big Love.
