Casting Corner: Cate Blanchett, Leonardo DiCaprio, Megan Fox and More

Here’s a quick look at some of the casting announcements made recently:

Cate Blanchett: The Benjamin Button actress will be paired with a new leading man for her next feature. Blanchett was recently tapped to replace Sienna Miller in the latest version of the Robin Hood tale. Cate will star as Maid Marian opposite Russell Crowe’s Robin of Loxley. The movie, previously titled Nottingham, will be helmed by by Crowe’s favorite director, Ridley Scott.

Ben Stiller: The Tropic Thunder star will be stepping out the jungle for a little “me” time in California. In Greenberg, Stiller will play a New Yorker who housesits at his brother’s Los Angeles home while trying to sort out his life. The Scott Rudin (Revolutionary Road) production will also star Rhys Ifan, Brie Larson and Greta Gerwig.

Dakota Fanning: The Hounddog actress may be joining Twilight‘s Kristen Stewart for two upcoming films. In addition to officially signing on for New Moon (she’ll play Jane of the Volturis), Fanning is in discussions to star in The Runaways. The biopic about about the former all-girl band already has Stewart filling the role of Joan Jett. Dakota may take on the part of Cherie Currie, the group’s lead singer.

Mickey Rourke: The Oscar-nominated comeback kid continues to add projects to his growing resume. After receiving an increase in pay, Rourke finally agreed to play a Russian villain in Iron Man 2. Meanwhile, Mickey will star in St. Vincent as a man who returns to his New York neighborhood to finish off a botched hit. He’s also joined an independent drama titled Passion Plays.

Mark Wahlberg: The Max Payne star is now attached to two films on the opposite ends of the genre spectrum. In Prisoners, the real-life dad will play a father turned vigilante when his daughter and her best friend are kidnapped. Meanwhile, Wahlberg will cover lighter fare in The B Team, a comedy co-starring Will Ferrell. The Sony feature will be directed by Adam McKay, a frequent Ferrell collaborator.

Leonard DiCaprio: Although he was recently snubbed at the Oscars, the Revolutionary Road actor has plenty of work to keep him busy. First, the 34-year-old will be jumping into the science fiction realm with Warner Bros.’ Inception. The Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight) original is being described as a “contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind.” Leo is also being talked about for Beat the Reaper. The film, based on the Josh Bazell novel, tells the tale of an emergency room doc who is recognized by a mobster as a former hitman.

Megan Fox: The Transformers beauty has just lined up roles in two comic book adaptations. In Fathom, Megan will play Aspen Matthews, a marine biologist who later realizes that she belongs to an underwater race of aquatic humanoids. Fox is also in talks to join Jonah Hex as a love interest for Josh Brolin. Brolin stars as Hex, a bounty hunter looking for a voodoo practitioner (John Malkovich) trying to raise an army of the undead.
