RIM to Open BlackBerry Application Centers

Not to be outdone by Apple and Google, RIM will be opening their BlackBerry Application Center. The online store will come out with their BlackBerry Storm software 4.7. The data will be stored on carriers’ locales and they are free to pick and choose their own applications. The main screen provides browsing while the application screen will provide a list. We expect this to be quite popular with owners of the smartphone, who can now save face when iPhone and Android owners brag about their new, cool apps.

Ford MyKey Curbs Kids in Cars

For parents who are reticent to let their kids drive their cars, Ford has come up with MyKey. Available on the 2010 Focus Coupe to start, the option can limit the vehicle’s top speed to 80 mph, limit the stereo volume to only 44% max, and issue an annoying chime if the seat belts aren’t connected or if the car reaches 45, 55, or 65 mph. The system uses Ford’s SecuriLock anti-theft system that identifies which key is in the ignition.

Want a really unique speaker? Marka27 is releasing four new Mini Gods in limited editions. There will be 300 each of Brazil and Midnight, and 100 pieces each of Gold and Platinum Grillz. At a size of 16-inches, the devices have a 1.5mm mini-jack for connection and are powered by a 9V battery. The Gold Grillz will be handled by Toy Tokyo at July’s San Diego Comic-Con with the designer/artist Victor “Marka” Quinonez present to sign them.

Nintendo Promises Wii Availability For Holidays

Nintendo says that there should be more Wii consoles available for this holiday season in the U.S. They also say that more Nintendo DS handhelds will be available.
Nintendo’s exec. vice president of sales and marketing Cammie Dunaway said, “While there’s no way to gauge total demand for our hardware systems, we’re trying to satisfy as many of those players as possible.”
We shall see. With the economy the way it is, we expect Nintendo will want to get as many consoles out there as they can.

Who needs a new cam, when you can now get a decent one with a cell phone? Samsung’s Pixon features an 8 megapixel camera with video capability, a 16x zoom, face detection, and auto-focus. The cellie features 200 MB memory (more if you have an SD card,) a 3.2-inch touchscreen, a multi-format music player, and Bluetooth capability. The Pixon will be available in the next few weeks and its price will be determined by your contract with the carrier.

Sony has announced that their new PRS-700 eBook will soon be available for all bookworms. Similar to their PRS-505, the Reader’s expanded memory can store about 350 digital titles and is compatible with MS-Duo and SD cards. It has a 6-inch display, weighs only about 8 oz. and can handle 7,500 pages of reading on a single battery charge. There are 5 pre-set text sizes, and the reader has a built-in LED reading light. Due out next month, the PRS-700 has a $400.00 price.
