Skype 1.0 Now Available for Mac and Linux
Skype is one of my top 5 favorite programs, and I think everyone should have it. They have now released version 1.0 for the Macintosh and Linux operating systems, with full cross platform interoperability. Go ahead and upgrade your beta version here - it’s free as always. Cross-platform Compatibility and Extensive Features With Skype for Mac OS X V 1.0 and Skype for Linux V 1.0
Luxembourg 1 February 2005 - Skype, the Global Internet Telephony Company™, today announced the availability of its feature-rich Skype for Mac OS X Version 1.0 and Skype for Linux Version 1.0 software applications, enabling high-quality voice calling via the Internet for multiple computer platforms. Skype products for Linux, Mac OS X, Windows and Pocket PC platforms are free and available for download at www.skype.com.
Previously available in beta versions, Skype for Mac OS X and Skype for Linux software includes free Skype to Skype calling and conference calling for up to 5 participants, cross-platform communications, rich presence and personalization features, and the pre-pay SkypeOut service, allowing users to call any landline or mobile worldwide for the price of a local call.

Skype for Mac OS X System Requirements
Skype for Mac OS X 1.0 requires a Macintosh computer with Mac OS X v10.3 or newer, a G3, G4, or G5 processor, a minimum 400 MHz processor, 128 MB RAM, 20 MB free hard drive disk space, sound card, speakers, microphone and an Internet connection.
Skype for Linux System Requirements
Skype for Linux 1.0 requires a computer running at least a 400 MHz processor, 128 MB RAM,10 MB free hard drive disk space, sound card, speakers, microphone and an Internet connection. Skype for Linux 1.0 has been successfully been tested on many recent distributions, including, but not limited to: SuSE 9, Gentoo 1.4, Debian “unstable”, Fedora Core 2, Sun Java Desktop System Release 2 and Xandros. It should run on all distributions that have the required versions of glibc and Qt libraries available. Skype for Linux 1.0 supports both KDE and Gnome desktop managers.
