Scientists Develop Scorpion-Like Bot For Planet Exploration

Posted by Hector Martinez Categories: Misc. Tech

Scorpion Bot

University of Bremen researcher Frank Kirchner has developed a creepy-moving scorpion-like robot, which is now being evaluated by NASA for use on Mars and other planets.  Apparently walker-type bots like this one are able to get into the deep crevices that conventional wheel-based vehicles aren’t able to reach.  It looks like something assembled from the scraps of a Terminator machine.  But don’t just take my word for it, click here to see a movie with the robot in action.

It looks pretty sweet but this isn’t exactly new technology.  They’ve had these type of “walker” bots for quite sometime.

Very cool

I’m guessing that the other “walker” type bots are not able to go on Mars…

Creepy!! Too bad they can’t make larger bots though. That tiny thing is what has to explore great portions of Mars cool cheese

Best of luck to the NASA team, however cheese

I dont know how far they expect it to travel considering how slow it walks.

Chances are theyll drive it over to the “crevices” in a rover

OK just picture that thing with a mounted machine gun…  50 years from now we’ll be fighting that and Asimo in the great robot wars…

we will see these in the next spider man.

theres already bots that are goin to be used in Iraq :o
