Griffin Announces iTrip for iPod nano
Early this morning Griffin announced the latest addition to their iTrip FM transmitter line - the iTrip for iPod nano. In the new nano version of the iTrip, the unit now uses the iPod’s high resolution LCD for the display of FM frequency information. The other major visual change is the “sled” design. The nano actually slides into the iTrip, almost like a portable, full-body dock. The iTrip for iPod nano also has Griffin’s SmartSound technology built-in, first seen in their SmartDeck device. This feature automatically adjusts the volume of the iPod over the iTrip for optimal listening. Here is the official feature list, straight from Griffin:
- On-screen tuning
- Supports US, International and Japanese tuning modes
- Stores last 3 used station presets
- Selectable mono/stereo modes
- Charge and sync iPod nano while iTrip is connected
The iTrip for iPod nano is scheduled to hit stores in November at a price of $49.99 USD. If you would rather pre-order, check out

I hate how the iTrip is setup like a song so when you have your iPod on random the iTrip stations come up and it changes the station you are on. Otherwise its been very good to me
I’m all for new technological breakthroughs and all that, but I really don’t see the point of having ones I-Pod connected to EVERYTHING having to do with music and entertainment. Personally, I love the design of the I-Pod Nano, and I believe that Apple FINALLY got the design perfected with this iteration of the I-Pod. That being said, I really was considering the purchase of an I-Pod nano, simply because it is such an amazingly well-crafted and visually asthetic piece of technology, until I read that the battery life for I-Pods aren’t that great at all, and that it was a literal pain in the ass just to install a new battery, once the old one loses its ability to keep a charge, even after it has been charged up over and over and over and over again. Seriously, I don’t see why Apple doesn’t just put a battery compartment on the back of their I-Pods whereupon those who use their I-Pods on a continual and consistent basis could just pop open that compartment, and replace the battery with another one. How come, with all of this technology, Apple hasn’t thought of the idea of using very high quality lithium ion batteries in their I-Pods that can be charged, and will hold their charges for a LONG time, and will last alot longer than the ones that are currently in their I-Pods? I KNOW it can be done, so how come it’s not being done? Really, Apple, you need to get on the clue bus and do this, thereby saving you all kinds of pissed off people who bought your pretty, yet energy-draining, mp3 players. And with the inception of the I-Pod video player, I can only imagine how many times people will have to charge the batteries in those things, seeing as how they will be playing video files instead of just playing music files.
You know why? Because the market wants players that are smaller. You might think that apple would use the extra space they gained by slimming down 31% to stuff in an extra battery but no, they just slim it down even more.
Apple carries oout market research before they release things and it turns out that more people would prefer a slimmer/lighter player rather than greatly increase battery capacity. The screen as well as certain chips, eg video chip, take up a lot of juice.
Don’t think that Apple releases iPods that are cripple just because they can, they aim to sellmore iPods if people want form over the battery life, then you will be seeing fatter but more long lasting iPods.
None the less, I have an iPod too and don’t fancy the battery life. Its alright, thats it. Just wait for the next generation, the iPod is about a small as it can get before it becomes too small/disproportioned. Its just like mobile phones a few years back when they were all trying to slim down, now they are so small that most manufacturers are focusing on the feature set and the form rather than the size. Battery life was also improved to a point that no one complains about it any more.
So, in essence, just be patient and chill out ok?

I’m not an apple polisher, but the nano is nice, I play with my friends all the time. Think of the battery life as that of your cellphone. If you use it(the battery) all day it will be depleted at the end of the day. The converse if you conserve energy. Also I don’t think I would want a removable battery compartment on my nano. I take apart my cell phone enough times for fun to know that it wear a little bit each time I do it.
If you would rather take it apart and pop a battery in go ahead, just compare cost of new battery, verse buy entirely new unit with features you desire. Check out systm.org they’ll teach you how to crack open the nano.
My last point is cost. I don’t think anyone wants to pay $400 for a super battery edition nano. Thats like the insurance they offer at best buy, you could add $100 if you want. Personally I would rather see a video nano, or an ipod that would play an audio book and showed you the page on screen. (Idea copyright oct 22 2005 www.eclectech.us)
I got mine today these are quality so much better than the last batch of itrip that made you load software onto your iPod from a CD. I really like the fact that you can control it all on the ipod screen as well.
I got my from <a href=“http://www.easyishop.co.uk/search.php?xSearch=itrip&submit.x=0&submit.y=0&submit=Search”>
These can now be legally purchased in the UK you can get them from www.easyishop.co.uk and not get in trouble from the police anymore. They are now legal to buy in the UK but only for use in Germany as they have been made legal there. Basically if one EU country makes them legal to use then you can safely by them in any EU state. But you are not allowed to use them there but they will now prob just leave you and let you use it.
Hey
I think they have a new one out now for the 2nd Gen iPod
take a look http://www.pulsetechnology.co.uk/product.php/230101366/45/ipod-nano-2nd-gen-fm-transmitters/griffin-itrip-for-nano-2g
I am not sure if this is any different or if its the old one they are saying works with the new ipod but still looks pretty good.
