The Final Cut: Upcoming Season Finales Sure to Leave Us Wanting More

Lost ABC

In this week’s edition of “The Final Cut”, Devin takes a look at some of the upcoming season finales over the next week. A week ago she gave us a preview of the summer movie season. Get ready for a summer full of reruns:

With May Sweeps quickly approaching, many of our favorite shows are coming to their seasons’ end.  Many questions and mysteries that we’ve come across during the season are sure to be answered during each shows season finale, and I’m sure it is no surprise to know that most finales will leave us with a cliffhanger, and have us counting down the days to next seasons’ premieres.  Today we take a look at finale listings from tvtome.com’s episode guide for some of the years highest rated shows, and see just what we can expect from some of out favorite TV shows, not to mention what questions we hope get answered.

LOST (May 18th, 8/7c & May 25th, 8/7c ABC)

“The French woman—Danielle Rousseau (guest-star Mira Furlan)—shocks the survivors by showing up to the camp with a dire warning about “the others” who are on the island. Meanwhile, Michael and Jin ready the raft for sailing.(pt.1); The castaways who make it on the raft are surprised at sea by something unexpected that happens. Meanwhile, remaining islanders attempt to blow open the hatch that’s in the forest, and visitor French woman Danielle Rousseau (guest-star Mira Furlan) who comes to the encampment might be a threat to Claire’s infant son(pts. 2, 3)”

While the May 18th episode isn’t the final show of the season, it is part one of three, with the two hour finale on the 25th being the second and last parts.  This season, Lost has introduced many mysteries, both on the island, and in many characters backgrounds.  It would be nearly impossible to answer every question brought forth to us, but we can hope to see answers to a few - maybe we’ll see what’s inside the hatch if the islanders are able to open it, or maybe we’ll see what exactly that “monster” on the island really is…and we can only hope to find out how those 6 little numbers fit into the whole Lost mystery.  We may even find out if those who leave the island on the raft are rescued, or if they simply become “lost” in the Pacific.

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES (May 22nd, 9/8c ABC)

“It’s a not-so-wonderful day in the neighborhood, as past actions come back to haunt the men and women of Wisteria Lane. Edie Britt introduces Wisteria Lane to new neighbor (Emmy Award winner Alfre Woodard), Betty Applewhite, a strict disciplinary mother and her son, Matthew (guest-star Mehcad Brooks), as they begin to rock in what is an already complicated neighborhood.”

With the season finale of Desperate Housewives we’ll find out nearly everything about the day that Mary Alice died, and what led her to take her own life.  Nearly all of the characters have past actions that can come back to haunt them, but will we see if everyone is affected in this episode, or if only certain characters pay the price for their prior discrepancies.  While it is probably safe to assume that Carlos will find out that Gabrielle’s baby may not be his, and that Paul will finally be brought to justice in the murder of Martha Huber, we can only wonder if we will also learn what Tom Scavo’s big secret is or if there will be consequences for Bree’s continued relationship with George.  With this show, there is really no telling what to expect from this finale, and with the twists that this show has had in the past, we’ll certainly be in for a huge shock.

CSI (May 19th, 9/8c CBS)

“The CSI teams come together to save one of their own when they learn one team member has been kidnapped and buried alive.”

While not much has been said about this 2 hour long finale that was directed by Quentin Tarantino, I can tell you that this is a show you do not want to miss.  What seems like a normal day on the job for one CSI turns into something horrible, and as the LVPD and the rest of the Crime Lab begin to look closer at the situation they realize that this was no spur of the moment kidnapping, but rather a premeditated act that threatens to put more than one persons life in danger.  It’s a race against time to see if the kidnapped CSI can be rescued before he or she suffers a tragic fate.

SMALLVILLE (May 18th, 8/7c WB)

“Clark begins to piece together the reason he was sent to Earth after he has a nightmare that something horrible is going to happen to Smallville and heads to the cave to seek answers from Jor-El. His biological father tells him he must reunite the three crystals immediately or a disaster of epic proportions will befall the planet and even Clark won’t be able to stop it. Meanwhile, Lex first helps Lana escape Smallville after the events of “Forever”(previous episode) then takes shocking action to get one of the crystals away from Lionel. Realizing the crystals are connected to Clark, Chloe tries to stop Lex from discovering the truth.”

This will be another extended season finale, as this episode of Smallville will be extended to 90 minutes.  This episode will take place on Graduation Day, and from the looks of it, it will be a graduation no one in Smallville will ever forget.  I’ve also found out that a world premiere 8 minute long exclusive preview of “Batman Begins” will be shown sometime during this stunning season finale, giving TV viewers one more reason to tune in.
