  • Great review, I am an Explorer 8000 owner and I agree 100%!

However, BEWARE! The software (as shown in the screenshot) that was loaded on your DVR is not the same software loaded on EVERY Explorer 8000! The software loaded on your DVR is called Passport Echo and is an extension of Pioneer’s Passport electronic program guide. While many other people who get the Explorer 8000, like myself, might get SARA—which is software written by Scientific Atlanta. While its functional, its just not as pretty or feature rich as Passport Echo.

    See for yourself the difference:
    Passport echo:

    SARA:
    <a href=“http://www.scientificatlanta.com/Demo/dvr/dvr.html”>http://www.scientificatlanta.com/Demo/dvr/dvr.html</a>
    And
    <a href=“http://www.pvrcompare.com/sciatlimages.html”>http://www.pvrcompare.com/sciatlimages.html</a>

All I can say is while the SARA software is great, the Passport Echo software is AWESOME. Even still, if your cable company is gonna give you a SARA box its still worth it, in my opinion!
