Has anyone had any personal experience with these types of computers?  They look pretty nice but I wanted to get your thoughts on things.  If anyone has anything, that’d be great :D

well… they are so much more expensive than the same specs of another brand, why even consider them? Build a PC yourself and save about $1000 :o

they’re nice, from what i hear, pretty reliable (as much as a computer can get,lol)...but ya, overpriced. the extra 1k-2k you spend extra on an alienware is not worth the snazzy alien case. you can build a computer with the same specs, then spend a lil extra cash to mod out a case however you like 😊

Moved.

Alienware computers are awesome. I have to agree with Antman, It’s better to say some dough and build your own. You’ll have a way better computer for less of a price.

Sorry I posted it in the wrong category.  It was pretty late :|

They look pretty nice and I really wanted a notebook computer.  Is it possible to make your own notebook computer??  That would be awesome but I have to idea how to do it.  Those alien cases are quite snazzy but I agree it is over priced.  I’ll search around some more.  Thanks for all of your help!

yeah you can. my friend did it. you can buy basically a barebones notebook shell, then add what you want to it. its a lil difficult, but its doable.

Well I’m not experienced at all with building computers, so building a notebook probably wouldn’t be the best thing for me to start out with.

Does anyone have any other suggestions on custom notebooks like the alienware brand but less expensive possibly?  Thanks

i would suggest buying a computer mag such as “cpu” and looking through the ads in that.  I’ve heard good performance from the pentium m processors but gaming will never be as good a desktop.  You could get a p4 but the battery life is attrocious!

Dell has a gamming notebook that is pretty good.. and less expensive.  I think it’s called the XPS, but I’m not sure.

I deff. wouldn’t try and build a notebook if I wasn’t experience w/ building them.

yeah… the XPS is Ok, but Dell in general is not…

try going over to www.notebookforums.com... they seem to like the brandname Sager, all though they also favor Ibuypower.

look around…

Also, the barebones is the M6N, i forgot the brandname

My friend also has an Alienware laptop, the battery life does suck. Also he can’t play games on it without plugging it in, the battery life will go down to like 30 minutes.

I’m not really looking to get a gaming notebook, I just want a fast computer with wireless internet build into it.  I basically just want to surf the web and run programs like photoshop and pagemaker.  I’ll check out the sager notebooks.

I’m almost 100% positive I’m going for the Alienware Notebook.  The Area-51m 5500 System to be exact.  It’s a bit pricey but I think it is worth it.

Has anyone heard something horrible bad about alienware or overall is it a good reliable computer?

Thanks for all of your help.

It’s good, It’s reliable, It’s huge, It’s hot, It has crappy battery life.  It isn’t really portable except for having the screen, keyboard, and mouse all built into one machine.
