I use Suse Linux .... It’s easy to instal. I recomend using the Live Distro first to check if this distro recognizes your hardware. If so, then the installation of the full version is Painless.

I would say its better than Windows 😊 I am a little biased as I am a Unix Systems Engineer. Give it a shot. Once you get used to the simple distros (Fedora, Suse, Mandrake, etc..) you can move on to something like Gentoo or Linux From Scratch. Those 2 distros are not easy to install and you pretty much have to build the entire OS yourself. The benefit though is that you’ll learn a great deal about how the operating system works, instead of clicking NEXT 5 million times to install it 😊

I have learned to be self sufficent from Windows. There is pretty much a replacement for every Windows app on Linux, and they are compatible. The only thing I keep a Windows box around for is gaming.
