Anyone know of any software available that will block out your ip address or at least hide you identity?  B/C the RIAA are getting very very serious.
Or do i have to go with a firewall of some sort?

i like that northcak81 says they are getting very very serious.  they’ve been serious for quite some time now.  the time to start being scared filesharing is long long ago.  it got me to stop a few years ago.

There is no 100% failsafe way to protect yourself—they’ve got all kind of toys that can trace you wether you want to believe it or not—*hands out tinfoil hats*

The only way to protect yourself is to not share music…myself personally however, figure that if there are 3 million people on a p2p network the chance of me getting singled out is slim to none, so I’ll risk it.

yeah I risk it.. I know I really shouldn’t.. but i’ve been exposed to so many good artists this way.. usually if I really like a band i’ll buy their albums.. but if I was to buy the entirety of my mp3 collection i’d be hundreds and hundreds of dollars in debt.

I try to be careful about it.. share very little.. only go on soulseek for as long as it takes me to get the few songs i want

now that a lot of you have mp3 players (iPods in particular), you can buy single tunes off iTunes or go to an artists website or fan sites and download free songs.

i manage an unsigned music band and feel that file sharing helps unsigned bands but only those kind of bands.  if you go onto file sharing networks and download signed artists, to me thats wrong because there is several legal ways to get one song from a signed artist without having to steal it.  i also find it hard to say its not stealing.
