iPod as a hard drive

Has anyone tried or know if u can still use ur iPod as a hard drive to say store files other then music on them? i kno u were able to do so a long time ago but i dont kno if ya able to do so since the different Generations have been released.

pretty sure you can, i dont know why apple would cut that out after the LOTR production people did it and it made the news…

alas, im still waiting on a few more referrels before i get a chance to test it for myself, but if you want to get some results faster, just clicky the linky!

just got teh ipod yesterday, and yes, you can use this as a portable hdd. i tried putting files other than music files in yesterday, and the ipod took it like a champ.

i was planning on buying a usb jumpdrive for school….guess i wont be doing that anymore.

there was an ipod help/hack forum i was reading somewhere saying that the menus and running of the ipod ran better if you did defrag it.  I don’t remember what the site was though sorry.

i got a question. say you transgered all your music on yur ipod and deceided to format your hdd. can you later put back all the music from yur ipod?

thanks for the info dude, maybe i’ll give it a whirl tonight and lesse if there are any changes….i was just afraid to do anything but add and delete files to the ipod, didnt want to mess up the firmware or anything on the ipod.

Yes, but not using iTunes. You’d have to use a 3rd party utility like PodUtil.
