It’s amazing how powerful movie hype is.

If you manage to withstand it, mad props to you.

It’s like the time SpiderMan2 came out.  People everywhere were talking about it. Silly stuff like comparing the series to the LOTR films, as being among the greatest of all time.  rolleyes  Commercials, cross-overs, and media blitz galore followed…

Somehow I managed not to see it until a month after it came out.

Movie hype can kill a movie, and it can make a movie a success. AWESOME movies that are not hyped often go under the radar because no one hears about them.

Ahh, c’est la vive.

its so hard not to hype a movie. Like spiderman 3 cant wait, xmen3, star wars 3, resident evil 2/3. Whats with all the 3’s but hell so many good movies how can one not be excited when release date is near.

some of the better movies i’ve seen didn’t have the hype. garden state, spartan, and donnie darko are a few.

Speaking of non-hyped movies, did you know that the Director’s Cut of Donnie Darko is coming to theaters before the DVD release? Only in select cities. Barely anyone knows about this.

not true, especially with the internet now.if something is good, most likely word will spread thru the internet, and people will start seeing it.

but when they want bragging rights and money, they always hype it up.

ya, unfortunatly money gets in the way of a lot of things…like teh quality of a film a lot of times.
we’ve got a few theatres here (angelika, magnolia, inwood) that play a lot of indie/low budget films, which i enjoy. funny enough, they’re the nicer theaters also, i mean come on, i can have a glass of wine while i watch a movie there, its sweet.
