Someone told me that it depends, so this should be an interesting poll.

Firewire puts through more power though, so you can charge things like an iPod right through your computer.

standard firewire= 400mb/s, usb 2.0= 480mb/s….but, I have read that firewire has more throughput, due to the architecture and such.

then there’s firewire 800. that destroys either one, lol.

USB’s control overhead is slightly higher than FW, IIRC.

FireWire.

Well you can charge the iPod 4G’s through USB 2.0 as well.  But not at the same time that you are tranferring, apparently.

yeah from what i’ve read this is correct.  I actually got so tempted by the prospect of transferring mp3’s to my ipod quicker (once i get it haha) that i got myself a firewire pci card.. extremely cheap like 13 bucks for a 3 external 1 internal.

I would have chosen “Equal” based on USB 2.0’s overhead.

USB 2.0 is faster than firewire by 80 megabytes.  USB 2.0 has more throughput.  The advantage of Firewire is that it can support 2 times as many simultaneous connections.  When transferring songs to the iPod, USB 2.0 is going to be faster.

I always heard that Firewire was faster for sustained transfers, and USB was faster for short bursts of information.

Firewire is faster.  USB is faster theoretically but is slower because of the overhead.  Also there is actually 2 kinds of USB 2.0 There is USB Full Speed which is the old USB 1.1 renamed and there is USB 2.0 High Speed which is the faster one.

I agree. Although mine has always transferred very fast with standard firewire 400.
