I have used Avira, Avast and Eset Nod32 Antiviruses to clean my laptop. Both simply detect the virus and then quarantine the file; they are not able to remove it from the file. This is obviously disastrous if the infected file is an essential file. My computer has crashed three times as a result. Do you know any antivius that can remove the virus and spare the file? I am using win XP.

From Microsoft:

“The method of infection used by Win32/Virut can damage some infected files beyond repair. In these cases, in order to return a machine to its pre-infected state, it may be necessary to install a clean backup of the operating system and associated applications.”

I think any major antivirus can remove this virus cause it is popular and all type of antivirus have the code to remove this. so you can use any popular antivirus with licensed version. like norton,avast,nod32,webroot etc.

good luck
