I just bought a Mac computer and have a bunch of old home videos on a dvd. Now I want to rip the DVD and get it into iMovie so I can edit pieces. Is that possible? What format and codec does the file need to be in?

DVD to iMovie Importing program is the best way to import homemade and protected DVD footage into iMovie with the least amount of generation loss. You can rip DVD to mp4, mov, mpg, dv, m4v, avc/h.264 video then import and modify it in iMovie.
