Alright so I am in this huge argument with the university over something I believe I am right about.
The situation is this. If you did not get over 85% in English 30 in high school you have something called Effective Writing Requirement. To lift this requirement you have to either take a non-credit course and pass it or pass a written exam. This has to be done within a year. The exams are held at 4 different times during the year. The courses fall in spring. I took the spring course this spring. It ran on Saturday for 6 hours 6 weeks. On the 2nd week IT maintenance caused the class to be cancelled so the course ended up extending to another week ending June 28th instead of June 23rd.

The problem here is as of Today at 11:30am I was scheduled to register for all my Fall 2008, Winter 2009 courses. But due to the fact the grades have not yet been approved because the class was extended I was not able to register for my classes today and won’t be until this happens. All the classes I were going were in my register and ready to go at 11:30am. After the system told my I could not register I drove down to the university from work and talked to the dean who said there is nothing they can do. As of 8:37pm today. Every single class I was going to take is now FULL. I now cannot register in any classes I had wanted to get into because the grades were not approved when they would have been had the class not been extended. I now have to take a year off of school because I cannot get into my classes.

Am i right in saying that the university should have lifted this hold off my account because I had completed the requirements and its their fault they had IT maintenance which extended this class to another week. I also forgot to mention my Faculty is the only one in the University that doesn’t give extensions on this requirement. Everyone else in the class who was not in Business was able to extend their requirement so regardless of whether they passed the course or not they would have been able to register today anyways.

I am extremely pissed off right now.

I agree with you. The university should have given you an extension and allowed you to register for your classes.

Thats ridiculous… the university should have given you an extension!  I completely agree with you.  I know at my university you can request overrides into classes by contacting the professors directly.  Does your university offer something like that?

Apparently not. Its a strict policy with no exceptions that no extensions can be given. So now im stuck looking for a full time job with only 1 year university done because i have to wait for next fall to register again…Gotta be the stupidest thing that’s happened to me to date.

I would check if they have an override policy (to add students into full classes). You could also see if the school has a wait list for classes. Also if there is an add drop period for your school maybe some students will drop the classes and you can add them.  But I think that you would need to check on the classes that you are interested in on a regular basis. As soon as you get your grades in english, I would go back to the school and be very very nice and see if they can help you, with any of the above suggestions.

The school should have taken the fact of the delayed class into account, and not given the teacher the usual amount of time to post his/her grades.

I know some young people need to stay in school as a full time registered student to keep health insurance.

I went into faculty today and they said I just have to try my best to get into the classes. I explained the situation again and again and they keep saying there is nothing they can do. All they have to do is lift my stupid hold so i can register arg.

I hope you can get at least some of the classes you wanted. At least they said that they would remove the hold.  Good Luck.

O no they havn’t even removed the hold yet. They won’t do it because its a policy! I still can’t register and now 9/10 of the classes I wanted to register in are now full.
I cant even get into my concentration courses :S

I agree. I work at a college. They should have taken into consideration the delayed class.  We do allow students to register for the next course in a series without grades, our registration period is prior to the end of the session.  If they do not pass into the next section our records office voids the registration for that class. It then becomes their responsibility to fill out an add drop form and select another class.

Finally i can register.
Too bad every one of my classes is full. I cannot get into any of my concentration classes.
I have to play the waiting game come fall and hope people drop.
Not going to be fun.

Did you look into doing any of these courses online? Sometimes, just because the class is physically full, they still have an online class you can get into. It’s worht checking out. Hope that helps a little.
