After the mess that has become the Democratic Nomination and the long drawn out general election campaigns, I have been thinking about how out of date both methods are. To think that the superdelegates of the Democratic Party could override the pledged delegates is just dumbfounding. Every year, the primary process gets earlier and earlier… how would you correct this situation?
I would first of all set a national primary date, which would be later in march (I would work with both parties to have around the same date) however this date could be even closer to the conventions, as long as both parties agreed to it i dont see how there would be any problems. Secondly, I’d replace the winner-takes-all states with a straight up popular vote nationwide with electronic ballots. Have both Democrats and Republicans watching the results come in to note any anomalies as they are occurring (to prevent election fraud)
Edit: By the way, that is clearly for the US, but if you are in a different country, tell how you would change that country’s nominating process or how you would change the US process (or both).
