This is the reason that I’ve now entirely dismissed the PS3. I can’t get one until it’s affordable (and MGS4 comes out), and this was looking like a definite contender for my money next year. Now that we know that -$100 means no PS2 support, I just can’t do it. I just don’t think Sony wants me to buy one.
Who knows? Maybe they’ll have another price drop by the time MGS4 comes out! (2 price drops in one year!? wtf?)
#### that, if I am going to get a PS3, I want to be able to play all the games on the thing just like the other skews. I never had a PS2, so I would have that entire catalog to draw from, but no I can’t play any PS2 games on the actually affordable version.
So far I have not seen anything of significance on the PS3 that makes me think I should add that paving slab to my collection.
The games may look prettier than before but I have a 360 and I’m prepared to put up with the fact that in the future it may not have the best graphics.
The Playstation 2 wasn’t the best console on the market but still sold a ridiculous amount. Maybe Sony should have spent some of the huge amount use to make the PS3 on developing games that would explain why I should buy this thing.
As regards to backwards compatibility. I couldn’t care less. If I wanted to play PS2 games upscaled, I’d buy a component cable and let my TV do the work. It’s so much cheaper just to buy a replacment PS2 than a PS3. When the PS3 is $250 to 300 I might buy it. As for Final Fantasy 13; I don’t think so. Maybe if more of us dectated to these companies what we want and not the other way, they might realise that exclusives isn’t the best route to take. I’ll wait for that to come out on the 360 and if Sqaue thinks that they will make a lot of money, they will release it on the 360.

He put it well, one of the man reasons I’d get a PS3 is for back-compatability!
MGS4 + Back Compat + €400 = a purchase for me
