re: http://threespeech.com/blog/?p=591

Okay so I’ve just come back.. what a night, glad I got the day off tomorrow.

The event was at 7.30pm til 10.30pm.
The place looks a bit of a dive from the outside.
It’s in a pretty grim bit of London.
Side note It is on the jack the ripper tour, NICE. map on flickr
BUT the inside is amazing.
First floor has the main setup of ps3 and screens.
loads of comfy chairs, lcd screens and ps3s, free drink and pizza.
The second floor had the main bar, and viewing room (huge lcd and loads of chairs).

The first thing that hit me was we were treated like important people, given that we were the first 50 people to email in to the threerooms website. It was a nice surprise.
The hospitality was amazing. I’m not used to being waited on and treated like a VIP.

We had a quick greeting chat with a ps3 PR rep, who briefly mentioned the psn issues in the UK. He explained that the content has to be in 20 languages before it can get posted on the Europe store.  Which is why we lack behind the US.
Its an issue that they are trying to resolve and it will be fixed but not any time soon.

The plan for the night was a big warhawk competition 6*8 man game the the best 2 per game go in to the semi finals. with cool prizes for the winners
While people were playing that everyone else had free pizza, drink and played the demos of heavenly sword, ratchet and clank, and drakes fortune. (more on this later.)

The competition was a bit of a non event as the network in the building was shagged.
Apparently the network is owned by the another company.
Not a major concern for me I wasn’t attending for the competition.
So I played ratchet and clank, looks really nice and I can see its appeal , but its just not my sort of game.
Then I played drakes fortune, great fun, very impressed. The Game is like prince of Persia , with guns. lots of leaping and jumping and figuring out how to get places. with duck and cover gunfights. defiantly a buy for me. could be a top ps3 game this xmas.

So then we had the heavenly sword presentation with the devs and Andy Serkis.. oh yes Andy Serkis…. woot.. he wasn’t book to come, he just came to meet the gamers. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0785227/
what a guy… He is such a nice friendly person, not the big shot Hollywood star, just a friendly bloke. He answered as many questions as he could…

A quick selection of info….
No he’s not working on any other games at the moment but he would be interested in doing more.

He had no input in the gameplay animations only the story and cut sences.
He asked the devs about one of the bosses about the motivation, the told him hes a boss the player kill him and move on. hmmm So Andy and crew created back ground and relationships in the cut scenes to make it more real.

He asked how people felt about games merging more in to an act film style. ie with cut scenes with some real emotional and well acted content.

They showed off a very levels and bits of the game. It looks good.
but I know its a bit short still may be worth a rent.

Then we have a 15 minute video of killzone 2 , looks amazing.

They gave us all a nice warhawk press pack ,woot, swag…

I mean up with one of the guys from ps3fanboy , had a good chat about home beta and Sony. His name is Jem Alexander.

Before anyone says yeas I’m a bit of a ps3 fan,  but I’m also a 360 fan,i f they can get me an invite to a Microsoft event in the UK I’d go and enjoy that too.

How is Warhawk?

Pretty good. Well worth the £20 I downloaded it for.
Only issue , like all other multiplayer games. its the time it takes to get on a server..
1. refesh server list.
2 find server with free slots.
3 connect to server.
4 be told sorry server is full
5 goto 1

arghhh…

but once you are on good times to be had..
word of advice the motion control on the warhawk is not worth using.
