Yeah I know Dante, I’m kinda bummed out. It was Lair and Heavenly Sword that were
tempting me to buy a PS3….but Heavenly Sword got mediocre reviews and the Lair reviews
have been downright terrible. Oh well, maybe a price drop will get me to take the plunge?

The uk offical ps3 mag, gave it 6 out of 10,
” it proves that an all 6 axis control game can work, we just have to wait for a good one to come along”
Game Informer gave it a 7.25 but the text sounds like they didn’t like it as much as the score indicates.
Twisted, I noticed that too. Kinda makes me wonder about the integrity of a GI review.
I was wondering if their numerical system is flawed a bit, so that high marks in one area can skew the numbers up more than they should. For instance in this case I think graphics and sound seem to be strong points, but it’s the game play that is flawed so giving high marks on graphics and sound out weigh any low marks on game play.
I had my doubts about Lair from the start, its gameplay seemed very limited from the start and it felt like a game that’d seem old after 10 minutes, kind of the typical first wave title-quality on any system.
This is getting kind of annoying. I kinda want to buy a PS3, but I don’t want to buy it simply for the Blu-ray bit, I need a game to convince me, and all the games that looked promising pre-launch are all kinda falling short, and are not really impressin me enough to buy the console. I don’t see any possible way they can screw up Little Big Planet so I think that’ll be when I get a PS3.
Todays episode of EGM Live they are talking about Lair:

Now I’m downloading this as we speak so I don’t know what exactly goes down but I really admire 1up/EGM for doing stuff like this, actually have the balls to have the developers themselves on the show and discuss the reviews. They did this with Dennis Dyack from Silicon Knights after pretty much slaughtering the demo that was at E3… where they got into some pretty interesting topics… Anyways I’m off to listen to this, I hope this gets entertaining.
Well all plans I had of buying a ps3 are out of the window now. When your first party games have control and gameplay issues, you lose me. I think I will buy that used HD-DVD add on for my 360 now.
