Show is uploading now
I *Think* I fixed all the quality issues and the stereo mix issues, if anybody has any problems PLEASE let me know
Show ended up being with myself, Sherveen and Jones since Hawkes didnt show, but I think it was a damn good show - Weighs in at a hefty 1:52 of content with one retro break.

BE WARNED - there is one bioshock spoiler that comes slightly without warning, but its basically “the numerical value of not killing 3 little sisters in bioshock”    It comes towards the end of the section we talk about Bioshock but i couldnt find it during the edit and didnt have time to sit through 2 hours of me talking looking for it, sorry.

Thanks for hanging with us guys, Just wanted to let you know We’re Back.

Jesus great show, but damn he like to argue…
M:  Ah, Is this the right room for an argument?
A:  I told you once.
M:  No you haven’t.
A:  Yes I have.
M:  When?
A:  Just now.
M:  No you didn’t.
A:  Yes I did.

good to have you back and its nice to have someone else defending the ps3.
I also agree with Andy about the dumbing down of games.. but then maybe if less people brought the Wii it would happen.

Andy told me a little bit about this episode earlier today in CoD4 (pretty awesome, by the way). Sounds funny. Will listen to it soon….

Well I guess I’ll be the first to say that I didn’t really like this episode.
The Vita Chamber argument became unfunny and repetetive after a couple of seconds, yet it became the recurring theme of the episode.
Sherveens brief Sony bashing did get old before he even started bashing, just not funny, and after the whole Vita Chamber thing Andy seemed alittle set on disagreeing with everything Sherveen said.

Guess the bottom line is, don’t put Sherveen on the show anymore, that mix just doesn’t become very entertaining.

BTW. Halo is NOT hardcore, it’s got a multiplayer component that pretty well balanced and interesting but it doesn’t hold a candle to Quake 3 Arena, and even older Quakeworld.

and about the Wii being the reason developers are making easier games (on other consoles(yeah ####### amazing argument)), try getting through the cups in Mario Strikers, I dare you. Thats way ####### harder than anything I’ve played recently on any consoles.

Most of the difficulty I have with Wii games is the inaccuracy of the controls.  You can make the same motion the same way 5 times in a row and the wii will interpret it 5 different ways.  Is it hard to get through the cups due to AI or skill issues or is it because ou can’t make the control consistent enough to rely on it?  (that is really a question as I have not tried this particular game).

Overall I found the show to be ok.  I found myself more on the Sherveen side of the argument on the vita chamber issue.  I myself never used a vita chamber once, I reloaded my save game anytime I ended up dying and did it again. So my solution would agree with Sherveen that if you find it too easy, you just don’t use it.
But to Andy’s point,  I didn’t care for the MMO style of death and respawn in a single player game.  It is easy enough to use the save and load anywhere system that one would never honsestly need the vita-chamber.

I found Sherveen to be Sherveen as I know him.  He was being himself and he was an acceptable co-host.

Mario strikers got the controls nailed. Really what you’re saying Maj is not the fault of the controls, its lazy developers, I’ve games do it right (WarioWare, Excite Truck and now supposedly Metroid Prime (not out in Europe)), but there are a load of crap games that overshadow them.

But back to the point, Mario Strikers is ####### hard simply because the difficulty curve ramps up so insane just from the 1st to the 2nd cup that its not even funny. The controls are just fine, it handles like a baby, but the COM opponents are sick after the 1st cup. I judge how hardcore games are by how difficult they are, and Mario Strikers is one of the most difficult games in recent years, on any console.

btw I’m alittle split on the argument on the Vita Chamber, on the one hand Sherveens right, you don’t NEED to use them, but on the other hand they are on by default and have you have no way of turning them off, which is just stupid for a game that supposedly is giving you all the choices in the world according to the developers.

If the Vita Chambers did give some sort of death penalty I’d be fine with it, like stripping you of all your weapons, having to find new ones, or returning mobs to full health.

I mostly agree with Andy, because it really killed the mood for me, going into the Big Daddy fight the first time was kinda scary, I died shortly before killing him, and got sent to the Vita Chamber and thought to myself “okay need a new strategy here” and was plotting my revenge on how to take the sucker down, but once I got back to where he was all I needed to do was pop to bullets into him and he was a goner. Comparing it to the MMO approach even is wrong, because once you loose aggro on enemies in an MMO they return to full health. Bioshock is pretty much the easiest game in the world.

I’ve no problem with Sherveen.
I might disagree with somethings he was saying, but I don’t care.

Feedback:
Thank you Andy for saying that about the Vita Chamber system, that has been my one big complaint about the game, I love it otherwise.
Very informative and on topic podcast, quite unusual for Gamer Andy P{which isn’t a bad thing, I like both}.
About COD4: The “Halo MatchMaking” system? I’m guessing ye are talking about the Trueskill system. Yes, Halo does use some parts of it, but it’s more of a Bungie in-house system.
Chatpad: Isn’t there a small text box that pops up when chatting to people on the bottom of the screen: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360messengerkit/ Watch the video.

I’m 100% with Andy on the Vita-Chamber argument. The way that the save system is implemented, it does not at all seem as though the developers want you to reload your save when you die. The Vita-Chambers are there, and they’re meant to be used. The save system appears to be there just so you can save your game in the middle of levels (which I do often).

I agree with Andy that the option is simply not there. Sherveen is technically right, because it’s doable, but it certainly doesn’t present itself as an option, and honestly, I had never even heard of playing that way, until Andy told me Sherveen’s argument on the subject.

Also, best quote of the entire show “Speaking of golf deathmatch…”

hrm the could have spaced the Vita tubes out i mean i can see where the coming from, i used them alot mostly when taking down a big daddy, i die quickly run back out,  but otherwise i was trying to get threw without dying.  Im not totally against the vita things just it should have been implemented better.

I didn’t even know that mobs didn’t regen health after you died.  I never took a step from a vita-chamber, I just reloaded and tried it again.  Guess that is why it didn’t bother me.

Hell, I killed the last 10 or more big daddies without even taking a hit once I learned which overpowered weapon I could use as an instant win god mode for Big Daddy killing.

If you prefer to load saves, do it. If you prefer chambers use them, easy as imo. I agree with Steve Vice’s comment “after the whole Vita Chamber thing Andy seemed a little set on disagreeing with everything Sherveen said” , bugged me a little… but apart from this I enjoyed the show as usual. Will definetley be looking out for the next in due course, nice work guys wink

Were you guys just doing shtick or do you actually disagree with EVERYTHING the other person says?
Solid show though…and personally, I like how Sherveen fights with Andy on nearly every point - kinda keeps
him on his toes.

Yeah, I’m not smart enough to plan out something like that in advance - I actually expected everyone to agree with me on the difficulty curve and sherveens whole “Defend the publishers, not the gamers” stance really irks me - I was *really* pissed off by the time we finished the show

And yes, I agree the vita-chamber thing went on too long, but I think the underarching discussion (difficulty, or lack therof in games) is a valid one that nobody is really talking about right now

On another note, has anyone heard from Hawkes?  He’s been AWOL since he missed the show on friday

I wasn’t defending the publisher, I was defending the developer. Second, I’m a gamer too, and you’re just a stubborn and frightened hardcore who’s been put into extreme paranoia mode by the Wii. You poor soul. Don’t worry, we still love ya anyway.
