occasionally. but i guess since its not during those times of dire need im just not really that mad. don’t forget that we are provided with a great service by google with like over 2 gigabytes of free internet storage space for our emails. having the server down a few times a week isnt that bad.
Ive been using gmail for a couple years now, and have never experienced any problems with it (once they went beta with it…). I like the chat deal, but I really dont see where the usability comes in, I use Gaim which handles every chat sever possibility known to man, so why would I want to be tied down to a chat program inside my web browser? Overall gmail rocks though.
I did try a service a lot like Gmail called inbox.com - they provide the same space considerations and they’ve been very reliable - the only downside is I haven’t been able to download attachments very well.
Is there such a thing as a perfect “free” email service?
Well, hopefully gmail will get it figured out someday, cause I do like it. I never seem to use my account though cause I just have way too many other email accounts.
I actually use my Gmail account more than any other at the moment. There are downtimes, but they’re never very long. I’ve tried a lot of free email services in the past and Gmail (even in Beta) is better than most. Hey, it’s free - am I gonna complain? Well maybe - just not today.
Has anyone tried Hotmail Live Beta? I thought it was really crappy.
I signed up for the Office Live Beta (and Hotmail Live Beta) and it’s pretty crappy. They give you a free domain name, but you don’t have any control of it so you cant transfer it to another registrar. You don’t get FTP either, you have to use their WYSIWYG options. The Hotmail live isn’t great either, gmail is a lot better.
I honestly don’t like all the integration at gmail - I prefer to handle my own mail sorting, thanks. It’s as bad as Microsoft Word telling you how you REALLY want to format that line. I prefer getting mail the old fashioned way - through my email client from my own mail domain’s mail server. Maybe I’m just stodgy, but I still prefer Yahoo!‘s mail—though I don’t like it since they changed it about six months ago. Guess I’m just difficult to please.
I think Gmail is cool but, in all honesty, I’m still fond of my yahoo. I know there are some glitches, here and there, but it’s basically free, so I’m willing to put up with it.
Now if they’d only make my DSL free, so I could make excuses for the lag LOL
Gmail works fine for me, I don’t know why you guys seem to be having troubles, maybe you’re downloading too much in the backround? etc etc… I still Gmail kicks Hotmails ass because it’s barebones, easy to use, and (almost) ad free.
