What’s annoying about CoComment? If you don’t have a CoComment account, it shouldn’t even be affecting you. If it is, I need to fix something (although, it is a wicked cool service).

Wow, I never even noticed it until I tried to comment. Didn’t really notice any lag, just noticed that it was annoying, even without a CoComment account.

Just curious, why would the shutdown of 12dp have had such a big effect?  Wasn’t that just one of a multitude of freebies sites discussed here? 

Anyway, I’ve just arrived at this forum and actually I think it’s pretty cool - was it way better before?!

The free forum usually brough in loads of people who wanted to discuss that stuff and then would also post on other boards. That’s why the dying down of all these internet crazes has left the site with less users.

I think Gear Live might need to do something like it did towards the end of last year. I actually found Gear Live thanks to that Omega Xbox 360 giveaway that was done. Of course, I didn’t win, but after looking at the site, I became really fond of it to the point where I visit multiple times a day and have the RSS feed on all my readers (SharpReader, Live.com, Google Reader). I think the real problem is that a lot of people just visit Engadget and consider themselves complete when it comes to tech knowledge. However, Gear Live posts a lot of neat things that Engadget doesn’t, and I also like the style of this site more. I think you need to do something to catch people’s attention. If you’re hoping to boost forum activity, you could also add a post minimum requirement.
