Im writing this in response to the comments in the recent podcast(s) regarding the PSP. The PSP is a GOOD system. Andy and Hawkes, etc dont play the PSP at all and dont seem interested in the system - probably because they play 360 and PS3 more.
Common problems:
Battery: I play my PSP every day and it has died on me 1 time while i was playing. Its not a problem, unless you are playing it for like 6 hours straight. That will never happens.
Broken Pixels: Yes, this is a problem. I went through 3 before I found one without any pixel problems. No problems since.
Bad media player: Its not a media machine, unless you have an 8 gig memory stick. UMD movies are not worth crap. Get a dvd to PSP converter and a big memory stick. Works fine.
Controls: Yes, ther is only 1 stick, and thats not changing anytime soon. Some games are awkward to control, but most of those are crap anyway and you wont play them to begin with.
Bad games: Oh contrare, my good friend. The games are quite fun and the graphics are great. If you dont like the PSP, it probably is because you are a console and not a portable gamer.
Games totally worth owning:
Lumines 2
KillZone
Race Driver 2006
Vice City Stories
Puzzle Quest
Daxter
Rachet and Clank
Gitaroo Man Lives!
Hot Shots Golf
Burnout
Steet Fighter X
Mega Man (both of them)
Valkyrie Profile
SSX
Socom
Tiger Woods 07
Syphon Filter
Wipeout
Tekken
Ridge Racer
X-Men Legends
Metal Gear Solid
Etc
Coming Soon:
God of War
Final Fantasy (1,2, tactics, and Crisis Core)
Worms 2
Silent Hill
Disgaea (OMG!!)
Crazy Taxi
The PSP is an excellent gaming device. I own a PSP, NDS lite, 360, ps2, and XBOX and I play my PSP more than anything else - and almost every day. It has excellent games, people just automatically bad mouth it because it had a terrible lineup when it came out and was too expensive and they have not paid attention to it since. I highly recommend getting one (or waiting for a re-design).
Also, custom firmware makes the PSP super-happy-fun-like.
I have a PS and I think it is worth having, and there are SOME really good games. I find the DS has moe games that are a lot quicker to pick up and play and it has a lot better battery life.
However, the biggest problem with the PSP for me is the ridiculous load times many of the titles have. Itabsolutely ruined some games for me.
Welcome to the forums. Remember there were games that didn’t interest ME. NOw that GOd of War is coming, and now that they will improve the FEEL of the controls (as it’s current incarnation hurt my hand) I am now interested.

Just a personal matter, no more than that.
actually hawkes, i had the same problem with holding the PSP. I got a Logitech case for it, which makes it bigger and more comfortable - much much better and more playable. Fixes the problem, i assure you (while protecting it quite well). As far as the smallness of it, i think it is totally fine - it is small and sleek. It not Ipod small, and thus doesnt fit in your pocket quite so well - but thats never been a problem for me.

Yea load times suck in some games, but they have gotten better with more recent games once developers realized people hated it. (example - tiger woods original vs 07 - much much better)
Personaly I’ve never seen the PSP as a bad peice of hardware. I’m a bit more of a fan of the DS, but that’s purly because of the amount of games that have been released for it. More recently more games for the PSP have been looking good, so as far as my interest in either is concerned they’re kneck and kneck.
I got one on thursday.
very impressed.
great for my train journry every day.
I’ll just have to find the “night in paris” video in mp4 format.
May be hawkes will lend it to me..
That would be great to watch on a busy train.
If a hd wasnt on top of my list id probaly have one by now.Id get an 8 gig card put plenty of media on it.Buy portable ops and be as happy as I could be with it.
I would personally do an Andy, and I would buy the iphone, before I bought a PSP. It’s not that I dislike the PSP, I think that it is a fine system, I just think I would actually use the iphone more.
If the iPhone were on Verizon, I would be all over it.
iphone is too overpiced and doesnt have enough space (only 8 gigs). Just get a trio. btw, it only costs like 250-300 to make (iphone). Apple (wil) is making a killing on it.

If the redesign we see at new E3 includes a true analog stick or better yet two, then you can sign me up. I just can’t get past the nub as a controller. Everytime I play a friends, I have to put it down after 3 minutes. It’s just too uncomfortable for me.
Personally, I don’t have an interest in the PSP and handheld platforms for that matter. This generation of handheld platforms has greatly dissapointed me for the most part.
