[quote author=“Andreux”][quote author=“illwon”][quote author=“Wolfeman”][quote author=“illwon”]lol… everyone did your math hw for you.

i’ll post one of the questions from my class when i get home

Fun, I love math smile

Good, cuz I’m not very fond of it.
I’m currently taking a Probability class.

Oh joy, this should be fun

I’ll post something when I get home, I’m currently at CCNA training and posting while the instructor is lecturing. raspberry

The Problem:
*****You must hand in an accurate scale drawing for the problem as well.
“Three Friends all live fairly close to a local Park. Mark lives 3 miles east and 6 miles north of the center of the park. Deanna lives 8 miles west and 7 south of the center of the park. Kerry lives 2 miles norht and 12 miles west of the center of the park. Find the direct distances between the friends’ houses. (Find distances to nearest 10th of mile) (Hint: If you are using a ruler to measure…you are on the wrong track.)”

I have the scale of the triangle of friends but cannot figure out what to do…HELP???!?!? How to do it?

Doesn’t this have to do with the Pythagorean Theorem :?

:| Wow, I’m such a nerd

couldn’t you just use graph paper and chart it out? i know its the long way, but with those numbers it shouldn’t be that hard.

that, or you could just find the answer key…

i really think this problem is impossible with what we know from our recent chapters…...also no one could solve it in my family…....

maybe that fat math teacher had a typo on some of the coordinates

Hint: Pythagorean theorem.

I just drew out the diagram, and I used the Pythagorean Theorem to discover the distances, lol

(Distance from Deanna to Kerry)^2 = 9^2 + 4^2
(Distance from Kerry to Mark)^2 = 4^2 + 15^2
(Distance from Mark to Deanna)^2 = 11^2 + 13^2

It’s all about adding distances and whatnot. If you absolutely want me to, I can scan the diagram and show you, I guess..

(Yes, I have this much time on my hands right now, at least—hence, the Scary Stories thread raspberry)

EDIT: Never mind, POG already drew out the exact diagram I had.

Put the good, ol’ Pythagorean Theorem to good use, and voila. You’re done

math6lb.png

K to D is √(9² + 4²) = √(97) = 9.8 miles
K to M is √(15² + 4²) = √(241) = 15.5 miles
M to D is √(13² + 11²) = √(290) = 17.0 miles

Yeah, ‘cause it really wasn’t too difficult a problem.. lol—unless you’re in beginner Algebra? Or Geometry, maybe raspberry
