$2000 for Receiver and DVD

Hi sorry this is a sucky first post but I need some help.

My wife just green-lighted a new receiver and dvd player and gave me a budget of ~$2000 give or take. Sadly, I have no idea what to be looking for or where to start.

Any advice/help/guidance/telling me what to buy would be appreciated 😊
