Anybody know if the iPods are different at all, other then the labeling and packaging.  Does the HP iPod come with any more goodies, like free case or anything like that, or is all included items the same as the regular Apple iPod.

Really?  I thought they did?  What difference does it make if they both have to use iTunes anyway to use the ipod?

The HP one doesn’t work with Macs the same way the Apple one doesn’t work with PC’s. It’s all in the formatting. The only thing is, the Apple one comes with the software to convert it and the HP doesn’t. You have to download iPod Updater from the Apple website to convert the HP one. It’s not too difficult.

Right, so that means it does work with the mac.  Not only with pc’s.  And why do you have to download the software updater to format it for mac?  iTunes is what does all the detection and decides whether is works on the pc or mac, not the updater.

I have both a Mac and a PC. Will my Apple iPod from HP work on both?

No, not at the same time. Your iPod is configured for a PC and formatted for Windows.

NOTE: You can convert an iPod formatted for Windows into an iPod formatted for Mac by using the iPod for Mac Software Updater utility on the Apple website . Note that once it is reformatted, it will only work with Macs. You need Mac OS 9.2 or Mac OS X 10.1 or later to reformat an iPod for Windows into an iPod for Mac. Using the Apple iPod from HP on a Mac is not supported by HP.

ahh, i see.  Assuming the HP iPod is the same as the Apple version, you can format back and forth between mac and windows.  On Apple’s website, is says you can format the ipod into mac, then into windows, then back to mac (or vice versa) depending on which you prefer.

That why you download the “Software Updater utility on the Apple website”  HP doesn;t support it.. that why APPLE has the updater..

I have a mac at home and a PC at work…my ipod works flawlessly between the two. i got mine, formatted as mac…however, in order for it to work on PC, i used EphPod…just a small, free app that allows the ipod to be used on PC without it being formatted in PC

basically, from what I undertstand, an HP is PC formatted and Apple is Mac formatted. both will work on both systems

If it gets too much thinner it will be like a credit card…  I’m content with the apple version I got.

Can hp ipod work like a plug and play usb hard drive, and do you really need softwares such as itune to transfer mp3s, cuz I have a small mp3, all you have to do is move files like its on hard drives.

HP iPod works just like an Apple iPod.  You can use it as a HD, but don’t transfer songs that way.  This was done, to keep the record companies happy. ( Can’t get songs off the iPod, well you aren’t supposed to be able to)
