well, the photos i took of my free ipod, the ones with text were done in photoshop…and teh milk carton with rayani on it was also.
photoshop can be a little overwhelming the first time, you gotta learn about layering, then you can tinker with the tools and such. you’ll get the hang of it, and then really enjoy it.
I’m a graphic designer and I’ve been using Photoshop everyday for the past 6 years and there are still things about it I don’t know how to use. Ditto on the filters. Until you know what you are doing, stay away from filters because they are cheesy unless you know what you are doing. I use filters all the time but I guarantee you wouldn’t be able to tell where I’ve used them. They are a tool, not a crutch.
At this point I would just play around with it. Open up a nice high resolution image you might have laying around and start trying out all the different tools on it. Look at all the menus and try to get familiar with where everything is. Make some multiple layers and play around and see what you can do. The only way to get good with it is to just use it ALOT. Just remember that it isn’t a total solution for designing. I wouldn’t use it for anything text heavy. You should really only use photoshop for special effect type text. If you have a layout with images and text you really need Quark or Indesign or at least Illustrator. Something that will output text as post script and not as raster. Quark and Indesign would give you the most flexibility format and style wise though. But really Photoshop is best for editing photos, creating artwork from scratch by painting and layering, and taking pre-existing photographic elements from different sources and putting them together to make new artwork.
Anyway…sorry for the long post. Let me know if I can help you out.
My sig, which I have on most boards but haven’t bothered to put on this one, is one I really like so I haven’t bothered to change it: click
I have this one composition that I was making last year, but never completed because I lost the .psd file when my computer messed up, so I have never been bothered to try and finish it, since it would be quite hard to do. As you can see, the orb in the hand is not quite.. well. orb-ish yet (WARNING! Huge file): click
If you need any help, Andrew, don’t be afraid to ask me, as I know quite a lot of sites with tutorials, and have written some myself. (click the www button under my sig)
Yeah, I still haven’t touched my Photoshop, it just scares the crap out of me, I have no idea what to do. And in any event, I have no projects I’m dying to work on right now, so eh, blah =p
You could always pick up the photoshop bible pretty cheap online—it’s a good starting point…but with photoshop your imagination is your only boundry…I’ve seen some originals that completely blew me away.
I use 7.0, and each time I load it, it wastes a good 110 MB of space :| Is this supposed to happen? Is there a way to get it to load all the crap that it loads permanently so I don’t freak out seeing the change in space that’s available on my notebook?
