I would like to get your suggestions for this.

I think Karate is not a sport and never has been, it is a martial art.  It was developed by Okinawan peasants as a means to self defense, disarm or kill an attackers during a period when the non-military classes were forbidden to own or carry weapons. They also incorporated simple farming tools such as Tonfa and Nunchaku into a range of formidable weapons that could be used against armed aggressors.

But when we hold competitions it is automatically become a sport. What do you think ?

Wikipedia says that a sport is “often engaged in competitively”. It means that it should be - but not have to be - competitively. For example a jogging on your own - when you are running along the street with the mp3-player n your ears is also a sport. Maybe.

when it is not used to hurt but only to compete on other people learning this. its a sport but if the intention is to hurt or take advantage on other people its not a sport.

There may be different definitions for sports. Here is a one.

“Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.”

According to the definition, when we do martial art in a competition, it is a sport.

Definatley a sport because it is now mainly only used in competition and there are rules. Should the rules be followed then it nolonger has the intention to harm people and so becomes a sport. If shooting can be considered as a sport then so can this. I’m not saying this because I think there is anything wrong with shooting as I myself shoot but only saying that I consider it as a means to get food and not at least primarily just for fun, for to hunt something for no reason is something I don’t agree with. However I think clay pigeon is a sport because the sole intention is to shoot clay disks both however are considered a sport. Although I’ve never heard of something like pheasant shooting as an olimpic sport so in a way it may not be recognised, clay pigeon is an olimpic sport however. Why some people call it a sport I don’t know (mostly the people who come down in helicopters paying huge amounts to go shooting and then missing everything) they tend to give the majoriy of hunters who go out for food a bad reputation of which gives them a hard time with antis who wish for it to be banned when most of them eat animals themselves, they just are not involved in any of the processes before it reaches their plates if they saw what happend in both processes then many would agree that shooting is the kinder way the people who shoot for fun and fun only are a minority of those who shoot.

karate is a sport because there are competitions. These competitions are just like football games or baseball games. Except, you use all of your skills and spar.In karate, kids do have exercise. They do very challenging kicking lines, in which they must continue a pattern of difficult kicks. Also, they stretch, and do laps, just as every other sport.

No they are not. They are semi-contact sports. This means that you do not hit each other with maximum force and you can use protective gear. The exception is Kyokushin style karate. This is full contact karate where you score by knocking down your opponent and maximum force is allowed so you can get hurt really badly if you take up Kyokushin

This indicates which you don’t hit every other with highest force and also you can use protective gear. The exception is Kyokushin design karate. This really is complete get in touch with karate exactly where you score by knocking down your opponent and highest force is permitted so you are able to get harm truly badly in case you take up Kyokushin.

No, Karate is not a sport but it is martial art which was was developed in the Ryukyu Islands. Karate is not just for adults, with many kids learning the sport.

In sports field the participants shows their capability, energy level, stamina in performance, mental and physical stability and many more things which are common in both. But we can’t consider them one. Martial Art is more than a sport.
