I mean from Kazaa—IMesh etc, not places like napster and itunes where you pay for a download.

I do not feel that it is—I’m not gonna pay for a cd that cost $13-15 for a single song…I sample from the net, and if it’s worth it, I’ll buy the whole cd…I’d rather have factory pressed than burned in my house.

No I don’t, but I’m a mod… I shouldn’t advocate law-breaking! :o

And set an example!

Yes, it is indeed stealing, but if they charged the REAL price for a CD, then I would actually go out and buy the cd. and a lot of the times, if a band is actually good and not a one hit wonder, i’ll go and buy their cd, because they’re a good band, and i want to suppport them.

one hit wonders, they dont deserve my cash, i’m dl’in that single song.

itunes does have a pretty good deal tho, granted its in AAC and not mp3, but they charge about the right price for songs. I dont mind paying 99 cents for a song, as long as its good (although i dont, lol, i mean hey, if there’s a free option, why not use it?).

we’re headed towards a pro-consumer era, where large companies realize that we have a good amount of power, i mean hey, we sign their paychecks basically, so they better make us happy.

I agree with munkyxtc.  I sample what is on the net, and if I find something I like, I’ll go buy it.  I’m not against buying cd’s.  I just want to know if its any good first.  and kazaa and places like that help answer that question.

What you have to do, is look at this as if it were littering or recycling. Sure, if you do it, it isn’t going to make that big a difference. But if everyone litters and nobody recycles, then where are we?

Same thing with downloading music. If you download their music thinking they are rich and don’t need the money, who’s to say that everyone else doesn’t think that. And if everyone thinks that, then there won’t be any more one-hit wonders, because there will be no artists.

I haven’t had a job until this summer, so I never had the money for it…so, that’s my lame ass excuse for downloading music 😛 and programs, movies, and w/e else is on the internet :( 😛 I do feel a kick from my conscience when I think about it though…

If you don’t want to pay 18 bucks for a CD, the why not go to napster or whatever and just pay the dollar for the one song.

Best buy even lets you burn any 10 songs from realrhapsody onto a CD for 10 bucks. If you were gonna buy 10 cd’s for 10 different songs, then you saved yourself a bundle and did it legally.

If its a popular song, AOL lets you listen to them through AOL legally. No need to illegally download it if you’re just “sampling it” right?

And in case you can’t tell, yes im against illegal music downloading. Its a freaking dollar for a song, how poor are you?

I only buy cd’s from bands that are low-key and probably don’t make much off of their music.  I’ll be damned if I’ll pay $15 for a cd most of the time.  That’s ridiculous. I use SoulSeek and Bittorrent.

I think some people don’t go and buy music, being a 15-20 cd or a 1 dollar song just on the basis of consumer principle. The music industry(mainly the company from hell: clearchannel) has gouged the prices on music, via cds and concerts, that if there’s a way to mess with the riaa and large corporations, they’re gonna do it.

and if something is accessible for free, of course a majority of consumers is gonna jump on that. morals go out the window a lot of times when it comes to saving money.

If for $18 you didn’t get a half good CD then I would say that it wasn’t bad.  But with the ######## that comes out now f*** the RIAA

Its not wrong. Ive bought way more Cd’s since ive started DLing. Why? Because i can listen to a whole CD and decide if its worth my money instead of being scared of ploping down 15 dollars for a CD. The only people that should fear downloading music is ###### artists who cant make a complete quality CD. Lucky for me most of my favorite artists make great music.

downloading is wrong

itunes and napster let you preview 30 seconds of every song they offer so you dont have to “steal” it first to see if you will like it

I just saw the Christian Rock Hard episode of South Park, and it was very funny, but very true. I won’t paraphrase for fear of being backlashed, so I’ll recommend you guys watch it. It’s on the Passion Of The Jew DVD if you ever want to rent/purchase it.

this thought just occured to me

is it really if you think its wrong or is it whether it is wrong or not according to the law.  i dont really think this is a personal judgement call.  i dont agree with the jaywalking law, doesnt mean if i do it i wont get a ticket just cause i think its wrong.  i might not get a ticket all the time but if i do it enough, i probably will.

Most of my music library (and when I say most, I mean, over 1,000 songs) are legitly bought CDs. Maybe 200 are downloaded from a while ago. If an artist I feel is worth my money, I buy their CD. And Ive bought MANY MANY CDs in my days. Of my own money, I’ve spent maybe $500 on CDs.
