Why do you think there is such a lack of people in this forum.
It used to be incredibly packed back in the free stuff phase.
So my question is. What would attract you to post on a forum such as gearlive. I know I post on a few different forums but what do you think gearlive could do to make this more appealing so we have a hefty amount of regulars rather then ones who come and go for contests!
I am fairly stumped on the solution to this myself!
More topics that people can put their opinions on. Of course if there were more people there would be more topics. More advertising would be my guess maybe get into these big websites that are well known and have them help advertise gearlive and what its about. Have some fun games to play on here, games attract people, and there are alot of site that have games on them so why not? I am running out of topic ideas myself to post on here.
Very good question. Lately, since I’m looking to build a new system, I’ve been bouncing around forums that deal with hardware, modding cases and customizing in general. I don’t know how well that would be received here or how well it would work. I’m not thinking that GL needs to clone itself in the image of other sites. What do you think are GL’s strengths; that set it apart from other sites/forums? Build on what works and/or makes this place different (so that people choose to come here first).
Adding games would be a nice feature but I don’t know if that would help the forums out any. Sure you would have a ton of people coming on the site to play the games, but that doesn’t mean they are going to participate and be active in the forums. I guess the easiest solution would be to just spread the word about the site. Tell your friends and everybody you can think of about the site and what its about.
Well you’d think with the amount of traffic im sure gearlive recieves there would be more members posting. But you have maybe 5-10 people from the thousands registered.
Seems like its a come and go basis. There has got to be something to make people stay.
I know i left before cause things were just dieing.
I believe that the lack of people could be due to many things, but it is odd how there are fewer people posting on Gear Live Forums. I think the Gear Live site is super popular, but the forums, not so much and I do agree with littlebull, the topics are quite dry now and well, I think new topics/threads would help out the forums more too.
Gear Live is a popular website and receives a lot of traffic daily. I think Gear Live is slowly getting more activity in the forums and the website. The contest has greatly helped Gear Live with this. The only way to help this grow is for us to continue making quality topics/posts and advertising the forums on our blogs, and telling friends to come.
Thats true to tell your friends I had put a post out on myspace a while back, if anyone else has that you could do that to and try to get your friends to join. And then have them tell their friends and then maybe more people will join and we will have more topics to talk about.
I still think there has got to be some simple solution.
I know the site have a huge traffic, but what is gonna convert those people from just visiting the site to posting on the forums!
A free computer is not the answe lol cause you cant do that every week 😛
Haha, I did and I guess I’ll see if they do start posting. 😉 I think the iPhone contest is a super, super contest and I’m surprised there aren’t that many people that have registered just to be in this contest. I mean, an iPhone is just a great prize and if an iPhone doesn’t attract people, what exactly will? Gear Live is very generous for even offering this prize and well, with all the hype and attention of the iPhone, I hope we see some more people participating in this contest before it ends.
I know…its kind of strange. With such a great contest going on and a great prize being given away its surprising to see so little activity on the forum. The contest is over half over and there has only really been a handful of people or so that have been active and on the forums.

Yeah exactly, its quite surprising. I thought for sure there would be a hefty chunk of people but that definately did not happen.

Thats alright though…gives us better odds at winning the iPhone hehe

True enough considering i didn’t even realize the draw was at random haha.
I was thinking, (this could be a bad thing) but in answer to your question “Lack of People?”. It kind of appears that you are IMing each other but without using aim, so that everyone can see your post. Maybe some of the “old” members are not as comfortable posting in that fashion. Also it might be if they don’t have anything to say they do not post.
Yes that is what a forum is, for conversation. As I said I was trying to think of why “old” member were not posting. Maybe it’s because they never really post, and come for information only from the main site.
I personally like all the activity on the forum. Some of the topics are really very interesting. Its nice to see all the interaction. I do think the forum needs more active members. Like Amdru said invite your friends.
We just need to figure out a way to get some of the “old” member to participate more.
I think all forums have people come and go. It doesn’t really matter what the subject matter is. Every forum will have regulars. Some will stay forever, others will come and go as they please. I think the big thing at GearLive is that the Forums don’t get hyped as much as the website does. Everyone loves reading the articles and watching the videos, but not that many know that the forum even exists. Even when you tell your friends and you digg posts and such, you still aren’t necessarily getting them to post in the forum, but at least it improves site traffic, which may or may not improve forum posts. Anyway, IMO, if the site traffic keeps increasing, then the forum members should too. Perhaps not as fast, but it will happen.
