Ugh!  I’m about to throw my computer out the window.  I am getting popup ads like crazy…everytime I open a new IE window or a new website.  I have Google’s popup blocker but for some reason it’s not stopping them anymore.  I’ve run virus scans, Spybot and Spyware Doctor (free version) scans like a hundred times, and they just keep coming.  Can anyone offer any advice???  I’m desperate!!!

before you try any of the adware programs or anything else—do the following:

1) GoTo Start> Click ‘RUN’
2) Type in SERVICES.MSC
3) When the services window opens up, search for the service called ‘messenger’ right click and disable.
4) Close The services screen

This quick fix will disable the messenger service which many pieces of adware/spyware exploit—it will not affect your PC unless you use the net send command on a network. This should cut down on them significantly

Thanks for the suggestions…I’m going to try them all now.

snak ->  Yes, my popup blocker is on…LOL!  Thanks for keeping me in check, though.  😉

Doug ->  Well I must admit that the free iPods thing is how I discovered this site…and I’m a she.  😉

also give spybot a try….none of these free programs are perfect, but if you use all of them, you shoudl be able to get rid of everything.

and ya, stop using IE. you know a program sux when the fed govt tells u that its bad. use opera, firefox, or maxthon. firefox is prolly the safest out of the three, it doesn’t even allow active x stuff.

Yes, I did, and it has cut down on them a lot.  Also downloaded Ad-Aware.  And Firefox, which I already like better than IE and the old Mozilla I had from back in the day.  😉

THANKS everyone!  I owe you!

FireFox is definetly the way to go. I can’t stand it anymore if I’m using someones computer and HAVE to use IE. For a while there I thought maybe pop-ups were’nt around anymore- until I tried using IE again!
I use SpySweeper too, it usually finds a couple of spyware related stuff when I run a system sweep (once a week).
