It seems to me a lot of people here are Windows users, but I’d be interested to see your take on the legendary Mac vs PC debate.  Ah we’ll even throw Linux into the mix.  Let us know what you use, what youd like to use, and why!

PC - Good for private use
MAC - good for arts and works

They have their ups and downs. They’re both useful.

Everyone says that macs are better for arts and such, but I can find tools for the PC that do the exact same thing.  Is it the fact that they come bundled with the macs that make them more attractive to that crowd?

Before Homeroom in school, I hang out in the graphics art class and they have artful programs like Flash, iMovie, GarageBand, all of that. Though, MAcs don’t contain a lot of disk space.

It may be Apple’s MacBook, Macbook Pro, and other products that are attracting many people to Macs.  Perhaps if Apples products had Windows (which won’t happen) people would stick with Windows instead of Mac.

I have a desktop, running Windows. My sister has a MacBook Pro, and I use it from time to time, but I’d say that I’d use Windows more often.

But I hope to use a Mac more often in the future.

Mac’s can run Windows when dual booting, can’t they?

Should Microsoft be designing its own hardware then?  which approach is better—having the same company design the hardware and software, or having many different hardware providers installing software from a different company (Microsoft Windows in this case)?

Not saying that Macs suck… it’s just that after a while I hate Macs simply because they’re used by the school xD
But don’t get me wrong I love Macs. Docks are cool.
Windows Movie Maker… <_< The only thing I find useful is that it can join together files for free.

The Linux OS is based off of Unix. Look here for more info lol.

Yeah good point, Ive never really used a Mac in a non-school setting, so I guess I’ve been turned off my Macs because I am used to the slow, annoying ones that we would have at our high schools… Someday I shall give Mac another chance… I have tried Linux though and am dual-booting with Ubuntu, which I like because it resembles Windows more, but I just feel too constrained in it and it just doesnt feel right to me, so I am sticking with my Windows OS for main use.

The UI just isnt as intuitive and as efficient for a Mac… they’ve done studies and the taskbar so far is much more efficient as far as hand movement and how it works with our brain.  Technically though I think things will move towards circular menus for a lot of things, as those are much more efficient than dropdown menus (though itll take us all awhile to get used to the change!)

I don’t think Mac’s suck, it’s just that I find Windows more… simple? to use. Mac’s are great, actually.

I remember some statemnt i read sometime back on this.It goes like this.
Macs are for kids,Windows is for grandma,Linux is for programmers and UNIX is froo Demi-gods.

Someone mentioned about MS manufacturing their own hardware,I think that would be a bad idea.Apple almost got wiped of the map because of its insistance of be uberly closed, making its own software and hardware.MS benifited from making it easy to make not only harware for its OS to run on but also to allow developers to make softwares.Thats why windows is so widely used.
I’ll use PC as its the only one which can run games.

Lol. Macs are for kids… well maybe ones that are fine with having less program compatibility.
Windows are definitely for the older generations… even if my mom refers to pictures as taking up “one memory two memory” XD

Microsoft is already in the dumps with Vista and closing down of their book search engine, so making more mistakes isn’t very surprising.

Games aren’t that big for me, but if I’m not allowed to play Fate of the Dragon I’m always going to still dual boot.

Vista does not suck. It does not fail. It does not break everything. Most of the people who say this, probably haven’t even used Vista!

I used my friend’s 2GB Vista computer for around 2 hours. Worst experience of my life.
In those 2 hours, the UAC would constantly nag, and loading even Internet Explorer was an amazing feat by itself. I looked at the task manager, and my evilness, there wasn’t even many programs using that much memory at all. My friend keeps very good care of the computer (at my personal recommendation to her) so it’s not anything wrong with the problem between the chair and the keyboard, it’s the OS!
Along with the UAC, Firefox would crash every time it opens. I have yet to find out why since Vistas are supposed to be compatible but that just brings my opinion down of Vista even more.
And my science teacher uses Vista. Lulz the accidents that happen.

Then she has a broken computer, because my OS is fine for me. It always has been. Oh, and you can turn UAC off very easily.

Yes I know but she didn’t want me tampering with her computer <_< I am notorious at school for tweaking with my (and other teachers’) computers. Usually with satisfactory results, but hair-losing experiences.
(It’s not a broken computer, I think it’s Norton)
