I’m looking for a 40-100GB USB mobile drive.  Similar to a thumb drive but with an entire harddrive for data backup purposes when do some PC work on the side.  Does anyone have any recommendations on this item?

BTW - Price not really important

Thanks,

I never even knew these existed. Check out eBay for these.
I found this 40GB one and it doesnt seem that big.

You should also check these portable hard drives out.

Yeah, they are awesome for backing up data on the run—I do a ton of PC / Networking work on the side, and these are ideal for backing up PC’s before doing anything to them just to protect yourself.

They have software for full backups, but I just pull important data, I can reinstall an OS in 25 mins.

Thanks for the link, that’s a great price on that one—Currently I’m looking at this one:

But I figured there was something cheaper out there for me.

Very true. OS’s can always be found in a disk, while other data cannot. Just curious what type of networking jobs do you do that require so much space?

Edit- The HITACHI looks pretty good and its from a trustable company and holds 100gb. Its 300$ .

The backups aren’t really for when I’m doing a networking job since it only require cabling to be run or hardware unrelated to the computers; unless I’m working on a server in which case I have a tape backup system I can install. The mobile backups are more for when I’m working on a machine that requires more than a simple install of some software.  Or is currently heavily populated with virus and/or spyware, I’ll move important data over to the backup disk…as we all know removing the bugs can sometime cause computers to go down depending on the severity.
