Vivienne Westwood Picks on Duchess Catherine

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, News,

Vivivenne WestwoodDuchess Catherine can't seem to please anyone in the fashion world.

First Matthew Williamson slammed the future queen - known at the time by her maiden name Kate Middleton - on her style, and now Vivienne Westwood is chastising the royal for not recycling her clothes.

"I don't have any advice for her, [although] I think it would be great if she wore the same clothes over and again, because that's very good for the environment and it would send out a very nice message. If you're going to all that trouble to get an outfit that suits you, then you should keep on wearing it. I mean you don't have to have a red outfit one day and then something almost the same in blue the next," the veteran designer said at London Fashion Week.

While it's humorous that Westwood - who herself puts out a new collection of clothes at least twice a year - called Duchess Catherine out for not recycling her clothes, Fashion Police correspondant Kelly Osbourne blasted her about re-wearing her clothes a couple years back!

Grammy Awards 2013 Fashion Breakdown

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers,

RihannaThe Grammy Awards red carpet was a little more conservative this year, thanks to the dress code placed by CBS; unfortunately, the restrictions seem to have negatively affected celebrity attendees' styles.

While there were many fashion mistakes at the music ceremony, Rihanna stood out among the rest in her gorgeous red Alaia number, straying from her usual provocative style to adhere to the TV network's fashion guidelines (though she raised eyebrows when she confirmed her reconciliation with Chris Brown).

Two Broke Girls star Kat Dennings opted for Vivienne Westwood (seen after the jump). Though the blue minidress accentuates the 26 year-old's curves, it resembles too much of printed bubblewrap.

Vivienne Westwood’s Diamond Jubilee Collection

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, News,

Vivienne Westwood Vivienne Westwood has created a new capsule collection to mark Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee. The fashion designer's latest offering, the Red Carpet Capsule Collection, has been inspired by gowns the monarch - who is celebrating her 60th year on the throne this year - has previously worn.

Vivienne - who met the queen in 1992 when she was honored with an OBE - has also paid homage to the iconic British flag, the Union Jack, in her latest creations. But instead of using the traditional blue, white and red color scheme of the iconic symbol, the designer has opted for a gold, silver and bronze style for her collection, which features corseted gowns created with silk satins, organza crepe and taffeta, as well as draped cocktail dresses.

Vivienne's latest pieces, which also include jeweled earrings, will be available from the end of May 2012.

"My clothes allow you to project your personality, and are quite theatrical in the sense that they are real clothes, well-designed, and they give you a chance to express yourself. They are also inviting people to respond to them and want to come and talk to you. You have a much more interesting life if you wear impressive clothes," she explained.

Vivienne Westwood’s Book Inspiration

Vivienne WestwoodVivienne Westwood reads to get new ideas.

The eccentric designer - who is famed for creating the punk movement in the UK in the 1970s - was obsessed with Anatole France's The Gods Will Have Blood even though it was difficult to read, and persevered because she has taught herself to continue even when she is unsure.

"I couldn't put this book about the French Revolution down. I've given this book to people and they tell me they can't get through it. Sometimes books are difficult, but you should carry on because the more you read, the more familiar you become with other ideas. It's about being what I call a 'fit reader' - you have to push yourself and eventually you'll come to understand it."

However it is not the only novel she is interested in - she believes J. D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye is an important piece for all teenagers: "The American outlook is very useful and interesting because America's been such an important influence on the way we all think."
