+ Despite being the latest Pantene Pro-V spokesmodel, Gisele Bundchen admits that her hair is constantly brushed by other people in her career that she doesn't even own a hairbrush. So, ladies: brushes are so passé these days.

Tom Ford: My fashion Isn’t Art

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers,

Tom FordTom Ford doesn't regard fashion as "art."

The 50-year-old designer - who made his film directorial debut in 2009 with A Single Man - always ensures his garments are functional and live up to traditional expectations of design, rather than being experimental or avant garde.

"The film industry is slow and I would lose my mind. You can really only make a movie every couple of years. I love to design. I am a commercial fashion designer. I always design jackets with two sleeves. I don't design jackets with three sleeves or the layers and layers come off like little dolls from Russia. Fashion for me is a creative endeavor but it is not art for me," he said.

Tom also admitted he would've liked to have been a cosmetic surgeon had he not pursued a fashion career: "In another life I would love to be a cosmetic surgeon because it's architectural. You know, you are trying to figure out where the seams go. Can I do it in one piece like Halston? Can you formaldehyde DNA?"

Lenny Kravtiz’s Tom Ford Inspiration

Lenny Kravitz in The Hunger GamesLenny Kravitz was inspired by Tom Ford to play stylist Cinna in The Hunger Games.

The singer-and-actor had not heard about the Suzanne Collins novel - which tells the tale of a future world where youngsters are made to fight to the death for TV audiences - but wanted to make his character as toned down as possible so he wasn't "too outrageous."

"I'll be quite frank with you - I didn't know about Hunger Games - so when I'm telling kids and they say, 'Who are you playing?' and I say Cinna, they go, 'Oh you're playing the gay guy.' The question was 'How far do we go with him?' The idea was to pull it back and create a character that's more like a Tom Ford or an Yves Saint Laurent so he wouldn't be too outrageous. He's classic, he's got his gold eyeliner. I kind of played him in the middle."

The 47-year-old star did not go into the role thinking that the character was gay, but merely eccentric. "I thought about it, and I read the book and I don't see that he is or isn't [gay]. He's a designer, he's a stylist, he has gold eyeliner-that doesn't mean anything either way."

Mary-Kate Olsen’s Fashion Criteria

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, News,

Mary-Kate Olsen in Elle UKMary-Kate Olsen can't leave the house if she isn't happy with what she's wearing.

The 25-year-old blonde - who runs three successful clothing labels with twin sister Ashley - says it's very important for her to be comfortable in the clothes she's got on otherwise she finds it a struggle to go out.

"I think as soon as you start dressing for someone else, it goes wrong. I can't leave the house if I don't like what I'm wearing. I mean, I literally can't."

However, Mary-Kate insists she's not obsessed by fashion, saying, "We're not really fashion obsessed. In fact, I don't know when things are fashionable or not. I'm not very aware of trends or hot new items. We're not cool."

Mary-Kate also revealed how she and Ashley want to carry on expanding their fashion range and look to Tom Ford for inspiration:

Gwyneth Paltrow Takes Daughter’s Fashion Advice

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, News,

Gwyneth Paltrow at this year's OscarsGwyneth Paltrow takes fashion advice from her daughter.

The Country Strong star - who topped the best-dressed lists with her Tom Ford cape dress at Sunday night's Oscars - admits seven-year-old Apple's opinion counts for a lot when it comes to dressing for the red carpet.

"My daughter loves a fashion moment. She weighs in very heavily."

Talking about the unusual gown choice, Gwyneth says she was inspired by a similar outfit worn by America's former First Lady, Jackie Onassis. The 39-year-old actress told American talk show The Chew: "I tried on one dress. That was the dress and I thought, 'it's a little different but it's sort of a throwback. I saw a pic of Jackie O in a white dress with a cape and it's been a while since anyone's worn a cape, frankly, except for Superman."

According to People Magazine, Jackie designed the ensemble in question herself for husband John F. Kennedy's inaugural ball in 1961.

Tom Ford Likes Provocative Designs

Tom FordTom Ford likes his designs to be "provocative."

The former Gucci creative director says he likes to shock with his creations but insists he only does it if it's justified: "I've always enjoyed getting a reaction. I'm still provocative - but I don't provoke just to provoke. I usually do something to challenge people to think about it."

Tom - who recently released his own range of perfumes and cosmetics - also says it's important to be flexible when creating clothes. "You just start with one direction, then, in a fitting, you think, 'This isn't working,' and you tear a sleeve off - and that's what makes it modern and original."

While a lot of models wear his clothes, Tom says many women could don his creations: "Most pieces could flatter someone with curves. Some full-figured women feel they need their bodies. I say accentuate your bust and hips; curves are beautiful. Have a full-length mirror, so you can ask yourself, Do you like the way I look?' If you're petite, ask, 'Is this cutting me in half?' Also invest in Spanx! With a great undergarment, clothes will drape well."
