Stella McCartney

Stella McCartney opened her first ever standalone Adidas by Stella McCartney store over the weekend.

The designer - who has created the Adidas kit for the Great Britain team to wear during the London Olympics this summer - chose South Kensington's Brompton Cross in London as its location, which is also home to the her mainline and childrenswear shop: "This store is a real celebration of what we have been building for the last eight years together with Adidas and hopefully it is going to be the home for women to go to and find everything they need for their sports - and at the same time not having in any way to sacrifice their style. It's very much part of the world of the Stella McCartney store that we have opened in Brompton Cross, and it's really the icing on the cake, as far as it is expressing the different facets of the brand."

Stella McCartney Nervous About Designing for Men

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers,

Stella McCartneyStella McCartney was nervous about designing for men for Team GB's Olympics kit.

Stella has been tasked with creating the Adidas sportswear for the British team for the London 2012 Olympics and the womenswear designer admitted she worried about how to create a strong, masculine look for the male athletes.

"It's the first time I've really designed for men and I've been really cautious of keeping them feeling masculine; feeling strong; feeling like they're really representing the nation."

Stella was also determined to make sure the female athletes didn't feel left out and she wanted to incorporate "feminine elements" into the kit: "In the history of these events, it's all been very masculine and the girls have been slightly overlooked in the design process. They get the exact same strip as the guys and it's been important to me to bring in the feminine elements. This is not about me. This is about the athletes and Team GB. I didn't want to put a big fashion statement on it."

Stella McCartney Inspired by Union Jack

Stella McCartney changed the colors of the Union Jack for Team Great Britain's Olympics kit to ensure the athletes feel "identifiable."

The fashion designer wanted to respect the symbol's "beauty" while using it as the main focus on the Adidas sportswear for the London 2012 Olympics, but she amended the color scheme to avoid making the sign feel "overused" in the lead up to the spectacle: "I was also aware of the fact that it's something that might be overused in the build-up to the Olympics, in taxis, on cushions and mugs, so I wanted to do something different with it - but that was still respectful of its beauty. Actually, the colors of the Union Jack are similar to a lot of other flags and the athletes really wanted to feel identifiable as Team GB, so I just used different colors to say the same thing."

Embarrassing Designer Stella McCartney

Stella McCartneyStella McCartney admits she's ''embarrassing'' when she sees people with her designs.

The fashion designer loves seeing members of the public donning her creations and can't stop herself going up to them to say so.

"I'm embarrassing when I see someone in the street with one of my bags, I'm like 'nice bag.' It's really embarrassing, I need to stop actually!" she told Vogue.co.uk.

While she loves seeing everyone in her designs, Stella says the person she would love to work with is Jodie Foster: "I'd love to dress Jodie Foster - I love her! I always wanted to dress Meryl Streep too, but she's just started to wear our clothes, so I'm really chuffed."

Despite her success, Stella also revealed she's still motivated by the values that have marked her career."I'm very motivated about trying to make tiny bits of change in the industry. To maybe make people think in a different way - if I didn't have that point of difference in not using leather or fur, I think I'd be less motivated. It feels like it has a little bit of reason behind it, other than just making a nice dress."

Stella McCartney to Launch Second Perfume

Paul McCartney and his daughter StellaStella McCartney used her father's nickname for her mother as inspiration for her latest fragrance. The designer chose to call the perfume L.I.L.Y because her Beatles dad Sir Paul McCartney constantly told her late mother Linda he loved her.

""It comes from my dad's nickname for my mum: 'Linda I love you.' The name is also from the lily of the valley ingredient - I love it as a flower, and so did my mum - it's delicate, feminine, innocent. It was part of my bridal bouquet. But I also wanted to explore its darker, more masculine side. It's a woodland flower and I wanted to capture the roots and the earthy side of it."

Stella chose to add the scent of truffles to her fragrance and perfumer Jacques Cavallier of Firmenich, who worked with her admitted it was an "unusual" choice. "The truffle was unusual, but I said OK to Stella. We used natural extract of truffle, and I actually told the suppliers we were working with that the extract was for a restaurant! I didn't want to let people know what we were doing," he said.

David Beckham to Design Long Johns

David BeckhamDavid Beckham is taking a design cue from his wife Victoria -- sort of. Beckham is set to launch a line of... long johns!

The soccer heartthrob - who signed a deal to create his own collection of underwear earlier this year after starring in an advertising campaign for Emporio Armani men's briefs - wants to give the old fashioned items a makeover when he launches the range in February 2012.

"I sometimes wear them to go to sleep. They're very cool."

David - who is currently playing for Los Angeles Galaxy - is reportedly being backed in his plans by his manager Simon Fuller and fashion designer Stella McCartney's husband Alasdhair Willis.

He also wants Victoria to be heavily involved in the project: "The underwear is totally my design, things that I like to wear."

Fashion photographer Miles Aldridge shoots Charlotte di Calypso for Italian ‘s Beauty supplement looking gorgeous… but creepy.

Styled by Cathy Kasterine, Charlotte wears Chloé, Ralph Lauren and with some interesting (yet sleek!) hair styles. In the above photo, I can’t help but notice the the resemblance to Tavi.

If you’re into the clothes (or the mannequin-esque looks!), check out the rest of the photos after the jump.

Terry Richardson shoots Christina Hendricks for Harper's Bazaar

In what is slowly becoming the infamous interview in which defends her Christian Siriano dress from the vicious words of Cathy Horyn, the television starlet also happens to have a gorgeous, fierce editorial that seems to match her attitude.

Terry Richardson shot Hendricks for Harper’s Bazaar (more pictures after the jump), who wears classic, tailored looks from Stella McCartney, , Yves Saint Laurent, and Dior in the spread.

I’m really glad that he didn’t resort to using food as suggestive props again!
