Melissa McCarthy Snubbed by Designers for Oscars

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers,

Melissa McCarthy at 2012's OscarsMelissa McCarthy has revealed designers refused to make a dress in her size for the Oscar awards in 2012.

The Bridesmaids star, who has just created a line of plus-size clothing for women, admits a number of high-profile designers snubbed her request for the glamorous event.

"Two Oscars ago, I couldn't find anybody to do a dress for me. I asked five or six designers - very high-level ones who make lots of dresses for people - and they all said no," the star said in the July issue of Redbook.

Despite being busy with her new fashion venture, the 43-year-old actress has also been juggling her family life, and admits her marriage with Ben Falcone couldn't be better: "We have a great marriage." The couple, who tied the knot in 2005, haven't let their high level of fame change their relationship because the most important thing to them is their two daughters Vivian, seven, and Georgette, four.

Items Du Jour: Britney Goes Platinum, Tyra’s War on “Plus-Size” Term

Kim Kardashian+ The Kardashian trio unveiled their latest clothing collection, which they launched in collaboration with British retailer Lipsy. Unsurprisingly, Kourtney, Kim, and Khloe model off their floral, curve-hugging dresses in the adverts for the line (perhaps it's the only way they'd be able to sell it?). Major kudos that they're not of the typical sequined and glittery New Year's Eve dress fare, but at the same time, I can't imagine women flocking to the stores (or in Americans' cases, online store) for a summery frock when they're looking for something festive.

+ Britney Spears surprised fans with a Twitter photo showcasing her new hair color: platinum blonde. Love it or leave it?

+ Tyra Banks seems to have joined Jennifer Lawrence in the war against negative body image words, claiming that she refuses to utter "plus-size," instead opting for "fiercely real." Not sure how quickly the latter will catch on, but it's a start!

Items Du Jour: KStew Wears Victoria, Everyone Forgets How to Dress Well at EMAs

Christy Turlington+ Although Kristen Stewart seems to favor t-shirts and sneakers when not on a publicity tour, but she cleans up quite well when she is! Although she doesn't seem too much of a Victoria Beckham fan, Stewart looked great in an orange number from the popstar-turned-designer's eponymous line at an appearance on Live with Kelly and Michael.

+ EMA host Heidi Klum may have worn Versace the whole night of the event, but not all of them seem to be the best of fashion choices. The same goes for the rest of the stars that evening - Lana Del Rey wore the most plainest black dress while Kim Kardashian looked like she was wearing a train of black trash bags.

+ Want a pair of heels you might have seen on display at the Victoria's Secret fashion show? Unfortunately, designer Nicholas Kirkwood says he's not selling them - unless you want to special order some through his stores, of course. He also seems to hint at the possibility of collaborating with the lingerie giant in the future.

Items Du Jour: Jennifer Aniston Signs a Hair Deal, Blake’s Ring Unveiled

Alexa Chung+ Because fashion and caffeine go hand-in-hand, Rodarte has designed a limited-edition collection of gift cards, mugs, tote bags, and sleeves for Starbucks just in time for the holiday season. The products hit stores on November 13.

+ Alexa Chung spills some details on her upcoming fashion book. Reports have named her upcoming literary venture as a "style bible," but Chung is quick to correct the gossip.

+ Not only is Jennifer Aniston the new face for hair product line Living Proof, but she has also signed on as a co-owner! The fact that the products were partly designed by an MIT professor does sound like it's a safe bet.

+ Plus-size model Robyn Lawley flaunts her curves in a cool editorial for Australian Cosmopolitan.

+ Hedi Slimane takes some time off his designing duties to snap up Anja Rubik for the newly-renamed Saint Laurent Paris' black-and-white editorial.

Items Du Jour: Ralph Lauren Casts Plus-Size Model, Rashida Flaunts It

George Michael and Kate Moss+ After having caused previous controversy with their Photoshop-happy campaigns, Ralph Lauren has hired plus-size model Robyn Lawley for their upcoming campaign. The 23 year-old size 8 model has previously been published in Vogue Italia and French Elle.

+ George Michael and Kate Moss prove that they're besties on next month's French Vogue cover, which looks more like a paparazzi shot than a major fashion publication's cover.

+ Parks and Recreation star Rashida Jones leaves the laughs at home for her Flaunt photo shoot, in which she trades her girl-next-door image for that of a Victoria's Secret model.

+ What do you do if you're Adele and a major label like Burberry asks you to be the face of their next campaign, yet you can't wear any of their clothes? Easy! You demand that they create some plus-size styles or the deal is a no go.

Crystal Renn Didn’t Like Plus-Size Pressure

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Health & Beauty, Models,

Crystal RennCrystal Renn says being a plus-sized model was too pressurized.

The 25-year-old beauty has seen her weight fluctuate over the years, and despite being very successful when she was at her heaviest, she admits the pressure became too much.

"I think that by placing a title on my head, which is 'plus-size,' and then the picture that these people have created in their mind about what plus-size actually is, I've basically failed you just with that. Because I couldn't possibly live up to that, and at this point in my life I would have to actually have another eating disorder to live up to that expectation," said Crystal, who is a US size six.

As well as her weight changing, Crystal recently dyed her hair platinum blonde and said she was "excited" by her transformation: "People can't believe the transformation. I had black hair and now I have white hair. That's what's so exciting. I wanted to do something different. I wanted to show up as a different canvas at a shoot. It's a very extreme look but very beautiful. Though it's nothing conventional."

Marc Jacobs Turns to Fetish Inspiration

Marc Jacobs Fall/Winter 2011For his Fall/Winter 2011 collection, Marc Jacobs wanted "severity and fetish."

The line look focuses on sexiness, and the designer says he was keen to take his new line to the limit: "I wanted severity and fetish. It was about rules and dress codes which are taken to different places and made a bit caricature."

However, fellow his fellow designer Phoebe Philo wanted her collection to be a little more reserved. "I like the idea of women not showing too much, of being quite reserved in a way, and quite covered," The Celine sartorialist said.

As well as his "fetish" collection, Marc recently revealed he is to create a plus-sized clothing line. The designer will become the first top fashion label to create clothes for women above a US Size 12, as he feels females with bigger body shapes should be able to have as much choice as those with slimmer frames. "We are in talks now. For plus sizes. Listen, we are in the very beginning stages of talking to a partner about plus sizes. I'm a big guy 6ft 4in, 210 lbs. It's not easy for me to find clothes. Of course I can have them made. I know how everyone feels. I try to diet but... I don't like the phrase plus-sizes. Any suggestions? We gotta do larger sizes. I'm with you. As soon as I get back to NY. I'm on it! It will take me about a year. But stay with us. (sic)" Robert Duffy - president of the Marc Jacobs label - told followers of his Twitter.
