Dolce & Gabbana’s Real Models

Dolce & GabbanaDolce & Gabbana used "real men" in their Milan Fashion Week show.

The fashion house decided against using models on the catwalk, instead sending 73 Sicilian men and boys aged between 12 and 43 - with occupations including student, house painter, barber, and waiter - down the runway accompanied by a live band in traditional costume.

Explaining the unusual showcase of the collection - which was largely monochrome linen, silk, light wool and chiffon - Steffano Gabbana said, "We wanted to put our clothes on real men because fashion should be for real people."

The show's finale saw all 73 men don dark suits and white jackets which were each slightly different to one another.

Elsewhere, Jil Sander made her return to her eponymous label, with her first collection in eight years showing an update to her signature minimalist style with colour and more modern cuts.

LFW and NYFW Agree on Dates

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Shows, News,

Steven Kolb of the CFDADates for London and New York Fashion Weeks have changed in order to avoid a schedule conflict. NYFW will now take place from September 6 until September 13 this year while London will immediately follow from September 14 to September 18.

Moving LFW one week earlier than normal will help to avoid a clash with Milan Fashion Week which kicks off on September 19. "Both committees remain committed to finding a long term solution that would see a confirmed Fashion Season where brands and designer businesses in all four fashion capitals (New York, London, Milan and Paris), can plan for the long term and when exceptional circumstances arise there is dialogue and empathy to find a solution that works for all," said a statement from the British Fashion Council.

Steven Kolb of the Council of Fashion Designers of America added, "We've been back and forth on this. People are anxious and need to know the dates. There's no value for the cities to compete. In the spirit of working together, London and New York are in agreement that we will go in the earlier period, but with the hope that the four cities will come out of this confusion and work together to plan future show weeks. We need to begin to look at the fashion season not as individual fashion weeks, but very much as a global business."

Jamie Bell Walks Runway For Prada

Jamie Bell, Adrien Brody, and Willem Dafoe for Prada

Jamie Bell has walked the runway for Prada's menswear show. Miuccia Prada - who has been at the helm of the Italian fashion house since 1978 - recruited some of Hollywood's hottest stars, including Jamie, Adrien Brody, William Dafoe and Gary Oldman, to model the Fall/Winter menswear collection at Milan Fashion Week.

Jamie, however, admitted the experience accentuated his insecurities about his looks and made him realize how "short" he actually is: "You suddenly see how short you are. You discover nervous twitches in your face you didn't know you had, and you don't know where to look."

Dolce & Gabbana to Fold D&G

D&G Spring/Summer 2012Dolce & Gabbana is folding its D&G line. The Italian fashion house - made of designer duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana - have decided to end the brand to concentrate on their signature Dolce & Gabbana line.

In a statement, they said the move would give "even more strength and energy to our collections." It means yesterday's D&G show at Milan Fashion Week was the last for the range, and the company will be incorporating the D&G line into its signature line.

D&G is a slightly more casual line and is the younger, more flamboyant line of the brand. Unlike Dolce & Gabbana, D&G sells watches as well as clothing. While they are getting rid of the D&G line, Domenico and Stefano recently revealed they are embracing technology and selling their collections on the internet as they want to give everyone the chance to buy their designs.

"It's a retail channel we are very interested in, because it gives everybody the chance to experiment with the Dolce & Gabbana world. You don't have to live in a big city - you just have to own a computer," Domenico said. "Luxury is not a static concept, but it shapes and changes with society. Now somebody who might not have the time to come to one of our boutiques can shop online," Stefano added.

Naomi Campbell Turns to Designing

Naomi CampbellTaking a break from the runway, Naomi Campbell has reportedly designed a line of jeans for Fiorucci.

The British supermodel is set to show her debut collection for the Italian denim wear label at Milan Men's Fashion Week - which is currently underway - although it has not been announced on event schedules.

While denim wear is thought to be an unusual choice for Naomi, 41, as she hardly ever wears jeans, she was spotted in denim at the recent Cannes Film Festival in May. However, on the rare occasions Naomi does decide to wear jeans, she usually relies on her close designer pal Victoria Beckham to get her out of a style rut.

"Victoria is amazing, a real sister. When I'm stuck in a rut, she's always at the other end of the phone to send a pair of jeans. They work wonders on the legs. I love her designs. I'm always in them. I've worked with Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen and so many great designers. So I'm proud Victoria is up there too."

Fiorucci enjoyed huge success in the 70s and 80s and is now owned by Italian fashion giant Ittierre after financial and legal issues in the 90s.

Willow Smith Dresses Like Billy Idol

Willow SmithWillow Smith cites Billy Idol as her fashion icon.

The "Whip My Hair" hitmaker has developed a keen interest in fashion despite being only 10 years old and admitted the 1980s "White Wedding" singer's look is the one she loves to imitate.

"I love Billy Idol with the leather and all the studs and black," Willow said when asked who influences her style.

Despite her young age, Willow has already sat in the front row at Milan Fashion Week earlier this year and revealed while she doesn't know a lot about the industry, she can appreciate the designer labels:

"Milan Fashion Week was fun because I saw how the designers are all so different. Say Dolce and Gabbana, most of their designs were delicate and more fitted but compared to someone else like Ferragamo their stuff was different. Ha I don't know a lot about fashion."
