Michelle Williams’ Native American-Inspired Cover Causes Controversy

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, News,

Michelle WilliamsMichelle Williams is a pro at slipping into various roles in her films, but her latest act for Another magazine has stirred some controversy.

The cover in question features the Oscar-nominated actress styled in Native American dress, looking pretty unrecognizable. The image is one of several others for the magazine's alternate covers, which include Williams as a "Kennedy-era co-ed" and another where the Oz the Great and Powerful star imitates Andy Warhol's famous Marilyn diptych.

"Just as Blackface is never okay, Redface is never okay. Stop supporting cliché images of American Indians. Racism is racism no matter what era of our history you attempt to portray, or what lens or filter you use," Jezebel writes of the image.

While it is already an unoriginal idea to photograph a star in the vein of homages to certain images or artistic styles, there are plenty of others of which to choose from that are less offensive to an ethnic group.

"H&M approached Michelle Williams' stylist Kate Young and they showed great interest from the start. We felt that this was a fantastic opportunity and a new and exciting way to show our design," an H&M representative previously said, speaking about Michelle.

Items Du Jour: Miley Makes a Match, Janet Gets Short, and Angels Get Ads

Janet Jackson cuts her hair- While her Wal-Mart lines aren’t faring well in sales, Miley Cyrus isn’t looking too worried these days, as she flashes her leopard print bra for the public while picking up some grub. While the matching prints are a bit tacky, it’s nice to see that she’s actually wearing a bra.

- Janet Jackson was spotted in London yesterday, having chopped off her locks. While I was never a fan of the Amber Rose trend, I can’t say that I’m hating Jackson’s look!

- I love Michelle Williams and I love Chanel, but when the pair were together for the after party of her film Blue Valentine‘s premiere, I fell out of love for what looked like Grandma’s satin bed sheet vengeance. Her new short hair style is killer, but not with the plain fabric wrap.

- Think that you know everything about your favorite supermodels? Try taking this fab quiz to test your knowledge about their humble beginnings.

- Kate Moss have some fairly interesting ideas, but I do have to give it to her for innovation. The Topshop designer attended the unveiling of her latest collection in one of her own pieces, but she wore it backwards! She has this uncanny ability to wear anything so well that I doubt that anyone would’ve known had it not been in her line.
